Depends on the type of personality your supervisor is. Over the years I have had ones I get along with and others that I just had to agree with. My philosophy has been push when I can and back down when I can't. I'm about couple years out of retirement and my supervisor who I can get along with is retiring. The person replacing him most likely will be a lot younger. Although I'm not worried about bad PR's at this point or layoffs, my goal is to find common ground and work from there until I reach my retirement goal. Your work supervisor can only make your life miserable if you allow it. Your job, career should not dictate the well being of your life.

You don’t disagree with your boss. If you do, your boss will either transfer you out of his/her area or put you on the involuntary list. You need to just shut up and do whatever your boss says. If you don’t like it, get another job.

Dude there is no good outcome of disagreeing with your supervisor at Ford.
The outcome is always that the manager and HR back the supervisor.
There are some rare birds at Ford who actually want feedback and listen to well thought out positions, but for the most part that is not the case. Ford tends to promote blowhards and incompetents.

My litmus test is if the supervisor will put requests and directions in writing. If not, that is a very bad sign. My supervisor has a history of explicitly directing you to do something and then claiming he did not and throwing you under the bus. The whole team now sends a confirmation email after conversations with the supervisor. Along the line of. “I just want to ensure I understood your instructions. You want XYZ done by ABC, please confirm that I have understood your directions. “
If no confirmation is received we don’t do the work.
The funny thing is that 90% of the instructions are never confirmed.
The other funny thing is this blowhard supervisor has manager and director convinced he is boy Wonder. The is a skilled con-artist.
