Don't you dare do required work on the clock,
For the VPN update I did it at start of my day and it took about 15 minutes. No issues at all.
It does not matter if they track what I do on the computer since I only do Hon work and pay some bills a couple of times a month. Usually after my normal hours.
I do feel lucky on this update since I've experienced the other side in the past.
@4ocn+17NZSdWA Check your Windows Event Viewer application log for errors. The installer doesn't stop when it fails. You will probably need to have IT support remove leftover directories and registry entries for the installation to complete. Have fun for your on-site trip.
Tried installing this morning before shift...Took several hours never did finish loading. System was so jacked up and slow that I had to abort the install and manually restart system. Started it again at 5PM tonight this time shutting everything else except software center. Over 3 hours later it is still installing. I will be willing to bet it will not install again. Tried to do it on my own time. They will have to force the install while I am logged in. Also willing to bet that will not work. I look in software center and see that most of the things that they tried to install have failed??
Yet another reason to never, ever, use your work computer for anything but work! PITA, but I always carry a separate device for personal use and never, ever use it for work.
So directly from the cisco anyconnect website - new roaming security ‘feature’ “provides real-time visibility into all internet activity both on and off your network or VPN. (Read - additional monitoring of your remote work habits).
The client may optionally be disabled on network to defer to on network settings.” (Read as - when HI ends WFH, they will remotely remove your ability to connect to VPN from home - or any other location that they see as not acceptable)
It is now 8:05AM, and I’m installing it ON COMPANY TIME!!!
Lot of fuss about a version update.
Just another example of hopelessly inept communications by IT.
They confused many people and generated worry when there was no need.
Just had to say we are pushing an upgrade and nothing will change ( exept that security is now turned on when vpn is disabled, ie we are watching).
Took me 5 minutes.
"Avoid disruptions to your work by downloading the update from the Software Center on your own time, before Nov. 11."
This is clearly an Overhead Activity and must be time charged accordingly for those that are obliged to do that. Anything else is fraud.
Maybe they have gone to far. False Claims hot line?
Vpn update for better access? Better access for honeywell to record your every click. They alreay log precise gps, screen shots throughout the day, content of everything you post to a web site ( yes they scanned and copied that mortgage application you did by gmail).
Whatever... not really about a new vpn
prob not worth doing with the rifmas starting SOON
Grow a pair - I grew a pair too & quit. Best decision ever. I got sick of being a doormat.
When I finally did grow a pair, I decided to not work at HON. Yes, please grow a pair.
You’re already allowed to work from home and you’re complaining about a VPN update that will allow better access. Quit whining and grow a pair.
The "Do this on your own time" was in the notification..... Another beg for free OT and not impact the bottom line. After all as we all know, it's always about the bottom line.
I saw nothing that said do this off the clock. Not that we have a clock as salaried. I work when I have tasks to complete.
Required VPN update. God help you if you're working remote and it goes wrong.
