To speak-up to the stupidity is to be 'crushed' in ranking, roles and social interactions. Even to lightly inquire is to insult management and the delicate ego's of middle management.

You are banish to the ranks of the untouchables with a side-eye to get working to 'impress me' or you won't recover, a cycle that proves to work for EM because of those of us who are locked-in by the time they are 35yrs, and the cycle continues.

They begged, pleaded and offer offered me tons of $$ to join the company. After 2-1/2 years of obedient work, they NSI’d me. I could see through the BS and took the PIL. Today is the last day of a paid 3 months vacation, almost 3 years to the day of my first day.

@waw - What a great way of putting it. I can't think of anybody I work with who is actually stupid (most are very very smart), but almost everything we do is exceedingly dumb. And obviously so to everyone involved. Yet we do it anyways because of the implication.

I worked for them for years & they are bar none, the most poorly run company, I ever worked for. They will fall like the Roman Empire. Who knows if I will have a pension when the dust settles. With their safety program, you are handcuffed, before the job starts. It was way better back in 2005, than now.

"do tasks without questions, try to please their superiors" says it all. this company is built on conformance and obedience, and following work flows and procedures. That can work well if the oil prices are high. The investment in technology and innovation and the ability to adapt to a changing market are just not there.

By your theory though, the company is largely unchanged from 25 years ago. The old people who aren't in the privileged elite just want their pension and think these kooky kids are ruining the world.

I don't disagree with you, the whole thing is shambolic.

I'm not sure about that whole "USED to be about promotions and making the individual look good" thing. The current entity has a very efficient system for identifying top prospects, giving them a variety of jobs, spending $1ms on theirs moves and their development. And for many of those top prospects, I get why they are chosen. They are usually smart folks willing to go the extra mile, give up family time, do tasks without questions, try to please their superiors, etc. It's just that somewhere along the line this system for cultivating leaders stopped correlating with business performance. In the simplest terms, most of the time I have a lot of pretty smart people asking me to do things that are very very dumb. And pretty much everyone knows its dumb. Which strikes me as a bit insane.
