If you're asked to move to Midland just say no unless you want to take a huge pay cut.
When I moved to Midland several years ago I was promised a 20% cost of living premium. This along with the 7% savings plan is now gone so I'm making 27% less than a year ago.
There is zero recognition by management that living in Midland costs more than living in Houston. There is no cost of living adjustment being offered.
- Houses are much more expensive than Houston (still). Rents are down but how many employees do you know that rent a house? The bank isn't calling me telling me to reduce how much I pay on my mortgage - I'm locked in paying a mortgage from when the company transferred me here at the height of the boom.
- The health insurance isn't poor compared to Houston. No in network providers so you end up paying out of network higher costs.
- Schools are not good (look it up). Many people are paying for private school out of pocket. The company offers no assistance.
- Consistently the highest gas prices in the state.
- Everything else costs more - dry cleaning, food, insurance, restaurants, you name it...
