Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Layoffs twice a year going forward

I have not seen anyone comment on this or maybe I had missed it, but instead of once a year a layoff taking place it will be twice a year. How ? Leadership ( — HAHAHHAHAHAA I know right ? ) stated they are going to evaluate the companies direction twice a year. We all know what that means which is more layoffs aka aligning our business with leaderships failures. Lets be honest here leadership has no idea where they are going. They have lost sight of what makes a business successful and are more worried about your race, s-x and age vs making existing products solid and messaging our products greatness to our customers. This is one of a few reasons as to why we are being led by a bunch of conformists who honestly are more worried about being the cool kid vs the geek that makes a ton of money.

What layoffs? A ton of employees retired and voluntarily quit, but there haven’t been any layoffs.

A company in constant layoff cycles is a death spiral. If you are at Cisco, evaluate your life. Mental and emotional health decay will cut your life short by 10-20 years. Ask yourself if it is worth it. Look at your spouse, significant other, kids, and then ask yourself if it is worth leaving this world early because an employer is horrible. Never give up your family or health to a company that would replace you tomorrow with an H1B or someone overseas.

As someone who feared what would happen if laid off, it turned out to be the most liberating experience. I had opportunities all over, lots of interviews, and choice of jobs after only 3 months of being out of work. I had 4 offers and I initially thought the Cisco was the best until the turned it from a FTE to a contractor position. I wound up taking the one that put me on a path to retire when chose and not what a company chooses. My pay was about 15% less, but the benefits 10x better. 401k, pension, medical, vacation/sick leave. I would have never had a retirement path being 50 and going back into tech.

It’s not really news. Basically they came out and made it official. Journalists are starting to pick up on it and write articles based off what they analyze fromthelayoff.com. They can’t let some journalists figure it out and scoop them.

Twice per fiscal or calendar? Not that it matters too much.
