Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

What Software Engineers should get paid

Public perception seems to be that software engineers get paid some 6 figure salary, even 100k.
Where as in reality it is even far higher than that. A lot of people are surprised when i said
that junior entry level engineers get paid 200k and they do they really do. By mid career, 3 or 4 years software engineers are doing 300k in salary, by senior they are doing about 400k; my last job in a tech firm i was at 500k and with sign on bonus about 600k income for 1 year of work. Software engineers get paid a lot, risks come when getting these 80 - 120k workers to companies.

These factors play an important role in your salary - 1. what company you work for and 2. where you do it. Geographies make a big difference. I read it seems most of teh world percieve sofware engineers as a blue collar work type. I would recomend looking for a company that has respect for software engineers as they generally will pay higher.

100-120K where I live is a great salary for even a veteran (10+ years) developer. I know a developer at WF, hit 33 years this year, still under 140K base pay.

That smell is the insane level of BS in those figures. Even the feds wouldn’t pay that much and if he worked for Trump he wouldn’t get paid period.

OP needs to learn math.

100K is six figures.

The OP also needs some lessons on how to write.

What an odd troll.

Yeah only in San Fran Sicko though...

There are far better software developers in flyover country for under well under $100K.

500k for a software engineer? WF is getting shafted if true. The apps/programs I've been using the last 10 years feel like antiquated mid 90's stuff...with a bunch of bugs

@OP total BS. If you were a successful true software engineer you wouldn’t talk about this but rather the projects you worked in that you enjoyed. Em great SWE’s like to make an impact in one way or another, they’re awkwardly positive and people (business and technical) actually enjoy being around. Because if this, SWE’s do get paid well in non-tech companies but it has to be earned.

The fact you claim retirement at 30 doesn’t make you better. It simply proves that a blind squirrel finds nuts. As everyone said here, why are you on this forum and why did you join WF? This is an anti-pattern.

OP here, did retire at 30; came here to see how it is in one of these types of establishments.

My general assessent is pay too low to live on so decided to run off and start a side hustle, which in first 2 months exceeded what i make full time here

I think OP is trying to compare computer scientists working in Silicon Valley on AI projects, to software developers at wells that pull data from 1 database, shake it around and insert it back into another database...

@OP. 600K at your last job? Why did you leave? Retired with 8 digits assets?
