Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Anyone heard of DCAE?

This thing is supposed to report metric on the network, so we can implement heavy automation, and to use big data to maximize efficiency. The thing is heavily outsourced and staffed with H1Bs. It’s broken more than it works and seems to be another major failure, but yet they continue to push it and dump tons of money on it.

Anyone who checks out their GitHub can see there's been no code changes to Open DCAE in the past 3 years. It's hardly a hotbed of innovation.

More like open sourced to get that sweet sweet free FOSS labor and maybe have China Telcom do the heavy lifting

DCAE was opensourced as part of ONAP

Opensourced because no one cares about it, and so "leadership" can now shift blame the FOSS world for its stagnation.

Data Collection Analytics Events. Used to collect data and usual architect is have it distribute through DMAAP Data Movement As A Platform . New architectures will include it. Part of Domain 2.0 architecture already. Hypothetically faster transfer to downstream but severe control issues

DCAE...laughing my butt off! Someone came to me with this idea, like 3yrs ago. I told them they were insane!!! ATT can’t run a single platform, let alone, create some AI to manage hundreds of platforms. It all comes down to having educated people who can properly implement and manage platforms. No one in ATT can do this! You’re all a bunch of mo–ns!

our leadership spent the last 2+ years pushing for the team to get nano degrees in order to automate product testing in order to shorten the certification time line. To this day the processes are still not automated. It's a total joke

The new breed of jokers at the top seem to be hell bent on making sure the Mobility business also tanks so they have nothing to hang their hat on. Just recklessly handing everything to the cheapest vendor that can support their "side hustle "( the Fresh guy sais it). All in the name of transformation or whatever fancy poerpoint someone made up without really a clue on what it takes to deliver. They will keep throwing those transformation, ML, AI, cloud - google all the buzzwords and insert - and keep jumping up and down for 2 years without having to deliver a single thing. And by the time people figure it out, they will be on to their new gig with their side hustle.

It’s another massive failure. The VP and AVPs are milking it for all it’s worth, because they know if it loses all funding, they will be out on the street. By the way, the thing is an overly complex, trouble-prone POS that breaks on a daily basis - literally.

innovative reporting. speaks volumes about att when all they can do is come up with innovative reporting and that is even outsourced - sad.

Since early days when they adopted PDD (Presentation Driven Development) it was doomed to fail.

Sunk cost fallacy. Also, several people who developed that platform have left the company or moved on to other jobs, leaving a half-baked product in their wake. Funny how the new stuff never replaces the old, it just gets thrown on top of the garbage pile along with everything else.

It's kind of like Domain 2.0, AIC, etc.

Sounds great at the top level, but doesn't actually work.

So they burn a few years and few hundred million figuring this out, then blame the outsourcing shop when it can't deliver.
