Downsizing Selections

There are so many people across the business waiting for a separation package. Mr. Stankey, are you listening? Offer the package to all and allow time to properly train those that want to stay. Everyone is happy!

" allow time to properly train those that want to stay "

This got a good laugh from me.

My group hasn't seen any formal training on the equipment we're tasked to maintain for over FIFTEEN YEARS. The last time we saw a formal training course, we were still SBC. :|

Let that sink in a bit.

Just hold on you never know, I was so beat down with forty years of service, had been surplused when I was 55 but left too early couldn't find a job paying more than 11 hr. so recalled and stayed almost ten. I was going to leave end of year, trying to make it to 66, in August they came through call center offered SIPP plus had another pension, and found out my first pension that had been rolled over in 2010 had doubled. I was a happy camper. I could say a whole lot more but they were good to me for a long time, It is the management now and everyone in that office, pretty miserable. I thank God every day. They lost six of their best people, who had been used to death.

That's funny- a "package". There are no packages here any more, that's ancient history. Now you get a pink slip and shown the door. If you got hired after 1999, don't count on any retiree healthcare either, unless you somehow totally lucked out.

remember VRIP?

That was like 1999 - so many people wanted to leave they had to lock the doors

What is "the package"? Last several MVO's have offered no incentives, just standard severance. Now they're not even doing MVO's at all. I remember the selling point from the VP's when they did one a couple years ago was, "better to leave now before interest rates go up next year, and negatively impact your lump sum calculation"...it was clearly a mandatory talking point as they all parotted it. Of course they were wrong (SHOCKING), and interest rates have continued to drop.

One thought is to think when you would have taken an MVO if offered. So last September, we thought one was going to be offered and I would have jumped ship. My mindset is that if I work until March then I would be equal to the September Package. Anything after that is extra.

The problem with offering a package is that those of us with options take them first. The lifers who only know M&Ps are forever stuck, waiting for the "right" package that never comes.

If you are ready to leave then you should make that leap of faith!Dont wait for a package, get out and live your life as you are a drain on this company!!! You are putting yourself through unnecessary stress that you could give yourself a heart attack and die and not enjoy your future with your family! No one is promised tomorrow! Her lies ............. waiting for his severance package but couldn’t enjoy a retirement! That’s just the truth gentleman, not trying to be disrespectful but I can’t wait until I retire, will be happy to pester my family!

It's not so much about a fair package, it's about providing incentives for an MVO. Your pension belongs to you.

What is everyone’s idea of a fair severance package?

I am one that will continue to work unless a severance package is offered, but know for certain that it won’t be coming, unfortunately! So, I will continue my employment with T until I’m eligible for social security. Why should I leave before then since I have just as many bills to pay as a new hire, probably more!

The reasons that Stinky does not offer it are:

  • Why offer anything to an employee when Stinky can rebadge an employee and have IBM, Accenture, or Tech M whack the employee afterwards for free?
  • Stinky has no desire to do anything helpful to any employee.
  • They can control who leaves and so how many will leave as they can refuse an MVO request. But the reason they won't offer an MVO again, at least in my organization, is that the people that took the MVO in January were replaced (back filled), so there was no real reduction in head count.

Remember, T is a toxic dumster fire, with Stinky in charge. The beatings will continue until moral improves!

You ask an interesting question? Why not save a job for those who want or need it? It's the older workers, who cost more, that want to leave. They have more vacation, pay, and higher health costs. So why are they not offering a MVO? My belief is that they can't control who leaves and how many leave.
