VZ IT compared to other companies

For those that have worked in IT with other companies, how does VZ stack up?

I feel like we’ve taken a step backwards since the VSP and have not recovered, but I’m curious to know how we rate against other IT orgs.

Hans lost allot of credibility when he didn't clean out 50% of the IT (GTS) Executive Team pork during the Verizon 2.0 implementation.

Im sorry but it is absolutely the worst leadership i have ever worked under and the constant staff reduction just proves verizon is headed over a cliff. My new organization has it together

The conference calls seem excessive and redundant at times.

I worked in Verizon for about 15 years until 2019 VSP. I can tell you that there is a pretty good work-life balance in my new job although there is no STI type bonus but the base pay is bit higher. I think its worth sacrificing STI for a much better work-life balance. In my new job, I can easily carve out time for self-development and advancement whereas at VZ I was always catching up with yesterday's work. The power point culture in VZ is very very toxic. More days were spent in creating useless power points and thinking about "how-to-explain-a-new-business-enhancement" in a language a grandma can understand! Bat sh– crazy and very counter-productive! Once in a while, I think about that craziness and chuckle for allowing myself to go through that $hit!

Got laid off at the end of 2017 after 23 years. Best thing that happened the whole year. I work in an IT group now that is run very well. Verizon was a sh– show.

I would put it in the middle of the pack. Any company with legacy systems tend to be less innovative and dragged down by those systems. Airlines, telecoms and banks tend to be in this category. Startups have cool tech and generally a more dynamic environment but startups can flame out so there is a lot f churn.

They pay alright but the dysfunction in VZ is incomparable

Slack has been a c-ap show of a roll out.
VZ hates Microsoft so no more Outlook and dont even speak about the word Teams.
Jabber is broke half the time..
Cisco used to be loved but since they started competing directly against Verizon they are now being shown the door.

The only reason everything has been moved to Google is because everyone one else has been labeled an enemy by VZ management.

It feels like they will be firing up the Sametime servers again sometimes.

Pretty soon Verizon is going to make you use your own PC and remotely access a digital workspace online.

IT is the orphan child of the Network Group and Kyle cares not one iota about it. It will never be innovative under the current leadership.

Poorest run org I have ever seen. Hard to imagine an org in a successful company that is run by worse leaders. Culture is toxic. There is no way you can possibly innovate in this environment - its all about survival.

Been here 10 years. Worked for VG and ME . Won’t say where I am now :) I feel like I got the $hit shanked out of me . Leadership is really poor. Many good leaders left. The current leaders are yes people who really can’t relate to employees and little understanding of the business and in some cases IT (think Corp systems)
