I was part of the June layoff and landed a better role, at a better company, for better $$ in just over a month. I came here today because a former colleague informed of the blood bath last week.
If you are impacted, here is the plan I followed:
- Take one day to “lick your wounds”. Everyone is allowed to grieve.
- Treat your job search like it’s your job, set hours and stick to them
- Work your LinkedIn connections! I cannot stress this enough. Work your 1st AND 2nd connections
- Put your resume through free resume evaluation tools
- Use Indeed.com if you are not a techy
- Make a list of all of Optum competitors, review their career pages, determine if anyone in your network works there so you can ask for an introduction
ABOVE ALL, DON’T BUY INTO THE BS THAT YOU ARE ON A PROTECTED LIST, even if a UHG recruiter calls you and tells you that.
Be kind to yourself. Panic is your worst enemy and will tank you in an interview. Be kind to your family and don’t show fear - show confidence.
There was a reason you were employed at UHG, and that’s because you are strong, smart and capable. Those skills are needed elsewhere and you’ll land on your feet!
