Does xom only confirm dates of employment through their email address? Do they share information about eligibility for rehire? For PIL, do they simply say you are still employed (until the end of your PIL)?

Love how these know-it-alls tell you “how any exxon manager will do it.” Pure arrogance that is typical of many in exxon. Really champ? You know how exxon does it? Well you’re wrong because I’ve received TWO professional recommendations( not school) from managers on Exxon letterhead. So yes, they will do it.
@fbm+17bXOORI The policy says they can only give recommendations for schools. However, that doesn’t mean that they won’t scr-w you over in ranking, on your next assignment, or on the recommendation itself.
Managers are not allowed to give professional recommendations. However some have been known to give personal recommendations, not on letterhead, but you can capture in email. This will show it came from inside the company.
For trying to go back to school, evenings, so had no plans to leave the company. My supervisor's quote was "as far as ExxonMobil is concerned, I can find more profitable uses for your time." This was years ago, before the downturn. I hope your supervisor is more humane than mine.
@fbm+17bXOORI - wondering the same thing, want to go for a masters, anyone have experience getting a recommendation?
@yjg+17bXOORI I seriously doubt that any manager would write a letter of recommendation on company letterhead against policy unless they have a death wish. And no company should ask, everyone who knows their salt knows xom doesn't do that. Personal letter probably fine. HR only gives dates by snail mail. That's all , sadly, I guess they think that an ExxonMobil employment line on your resume is recommendation enough.
just an FYI (former employee) – getting an employment verification from HR is a huge annoyance and makes me even happier I left. This company is behind in technology they will only snail mail the letter.
Does EM not give letters of rec even if you needed it to apply to school full time (no PIP/NSI)?
They only verify dates (officially). They will verify you as employed until you aren’t. I would do everything you can to get a letter if recommendation on Exxon letterhead. That will get you further than simple dates verification. Yes, i know management is not supposed to do write LoR, but i would try anyway. Some managers have compassion (a true trait of leadership), and will do it for you if your going out on decent terms, and they trust that you won’t use it against them.
