GBS Q4 Plan: Aggressive Bench Management

Aggressive bench management is the name of the game in Q4 for GBS. The relaxed pandemic standards of time on bench have been removed, and individuals have 29 days to find a project before receiving a bench PIP on day 30.

However, if there are still openings or staff required on projects like the New York State Department of Labor, anyone on bench for more that 24 hours will be assigned to the project, no exceptions. DOL is a body farm, and all that matters is a pulse and an internet connection.

GBS leadership is apparently fed up with the status of the bench these days, so that's why they're being far stricter in Q4.

Beyond Q4, I know nothing.

Q4 cuts coming to Services, so get your resumes ready. GBS & GTS consolidation is in executive planning and it’s a major land grab for GBS and a bloodbath for GTS. If history repeats itself, 2nd week of November or 1st week of December, so IBM doesn’t have to pay 401k year end contributions. It’s been nice knowing you.

SAP and IBM have a complicated relationship Both have invested in, and embraced VERY large memory databases on Power technology, but SAP has incented their sales force to move as much workload as possible to their Intel cloud. SAP would like for as many engagements as possible to move thru their services organization, but partners bring them very good SW margin sales, and “other” services engagements.. This relationship is will most likely cooperate in the Enterprise space, but go their separate ways in the less than enterprise accounts.

@1usk - how about SAP? We have a strong and thriving SAP core here in GBS?

With the arrival of AK and his calling the shots, the services game has changed. Don’t believe me, why did Whitehurst get named president? If you are associated with Cloud/AI/Redhat, you have a future within the services organizations within IBM If you are not associated with Cloud/AI/Redhat, you will be phased out of IBM.

This is a reply to Post ID: @tlu+17e882n0. GTS has laid off most of the older workers to hire college graduates.

GTS is spending millions to reconfigure office space for covid, so they must not be hurting.
GBS was always the dog no matter how their workers tried to spin themselves.

GBS leadership is a bunch of losers with no ability to sell and no client relationships. Every reorganization is the same people changing roles. The results speak for themselves. They need to clean house desperately from the top down!
