What to do while waiting for R4 result

I usually don't like to being idle, so I'm thinking of picking up the pace for the project I'm working on just to keep my mind of the selection process. I also know folks who just want to take it easy. Does what you do between now and when the selection completes matter? BTW, I'm not suggesting doing anything that can get you fired like the people who sent themselves all the company docs "just in case".

Let’s not forget they RAISED the severance payment amount because of the current situation with jobs and the world right now. No other company has done that. Also, we had a year’s notice that cuts would happen. So while the layoffs s—, chevron has done what they can to be transparent as possible and to financially prepare us.

OP: Best thing to do is work on your transition plan, laying out your job responsibilities, key contacts and key documents. It will be useful even if you stay in role, and it will reflect well on you whether you move to another job or onto redeployment.

The company isn't guaranting us anything so I would not push it too hard until you know something.

@3rxk, A severance payment is not required by any law, in case you didn't know. They may not care much but they are giving you an unrequired, unearned goodbye present to keep you solvent for a year. That means more to me than feelings. I hope you get a hug and a biden-butt-grab instead since that may give you the nice warm and fuzzy that you desire.

It’s good that we don’t have to physically be in the office these days. Probably the only good thing about COVID.

Everyone in management will be focused on selection full time this month so don’t over work it. Your records are in the bag and It is out your hands now. Do what you said you would do but no more. If selected you will still need to do your year end closing, but no one will be promoted this round. This month close out some lose ends, do some training, a little introspection, get the house in order. When selected expect management to go into a frenzy to show results even as the holiday season begins....and I bet you did not take any of your vacation this year. Get some rest, as next year it will be off to the races.

Focus on you and create your backup plan. I learned a long time ago there's no point being a loyal company man to a faceless organisation when you are just a cog in the system.

Get all your “honey do’s” caught up and done. The divorce rate has skyrocketed since the lockdowns. Now that you have more free time while at the house, there’s no excuse not to knock some things out that’ll make your significant other appreciate you a little more and show them you’re appreciative as well. If you get selected, then you’ll both be glad those things got done. If you get left standing, it’ll free up more time to find something else, while your significant other will be in appreciation mode and be more supportive. Either way, it’s a win-win. Sometimes I just ask myself, “WWDPS?” (What would Dr Phil say?)
Disclaimer: This works 100% of the time, 50% of the time. Sometimes relationships just get to a point where even the way someone eats a sandwich will tick you off - in which case, it doesn’t matter how many honey do’s you take care of - you’re still in the dog house.

Fortunately for the majority of those in R4 they will retain their positions or at least have another position that they will be moved to. BU’s will not make massive changes that result in some chaos whole “onboarding “. That being said, the unfortunate aspect is the doubt and the length of time that it goes through your mind. There is now nothing you can do and it is now in the hands of others. I like what others have said in that you start to plan for the alternative. This is very good because as some of us know, we have been through this many times and expect more of these “exercises” In the future. You can also look into if you eventually want to transfer out of this industry and what you need to do to get to that. Find what works for you best to put your mind and energy into that is positive and lose the worry because that will affect your health even though it is easier said then done. I’m trying to stay focused on the job and projects around the house that keep my brain active. Going outside, getting exercise, working on personal goals. Everyone has their own best approach, but sitting around and watching TV doesn’t work for me, need things that keep me feeling productive. Use the time to look at other career options for the future if not happy at CVX. Trying to just stay focused on actions and not emotions. Easy to hide indoors during these times and isolate, especially during covid, which just drives depression. Good opportunity to evaluate life and whether CVX is the right choice long term regardless of selection outcomes. I personally have really lost my tolerance for the disingenuous culture, I’ve worked at companies that were pretty harsh but they were honest about being harsh — “this is who we are, if you aren’t happy here you are welcome to leave”.

As little as possible. Anything you do now won’t matter in the new org and if you’re left standing you won’t regret not putting in work no one cares about or will follow up on.

It only matters if you’re selected, plan on using people for references or want to feel at peace with yourself.
I’m also working to catch back up with work that was thrown off by the last minute timeline change. I plan to deliver everything I can before the November so that I can focus on documentation and skills growth regardless of outcome since my position doesn’t exist in the new organization structure.
