Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

When "WE" speak of “The Union” at Verzion we are talking abou a small group of Employees. Setting the record straight here.

Most employees at Verizon are not unionized, and a small portion of them are. "We" at Verizon that are not unionized [most of us] want to keep it that way. Just look at this board on "The Layoff's" ! "We Verizon employees do NOT want to be part of them and "WE" are not part of them. We at Verizon do very well here thank you very much and "WE" see zero reason for the unionize part of Verizon to grow. The part of Verizon that has unionize workers happens to be part of our business that is shrinking and at some point will be sunset.

Lame! Lame! Bragging again and making us union members look bad, and the people I work with everyday are older than me. In fact most of the people I work with are over 55 and can't retire. So this is just a flat out lie.

"retired with 1.4 million in the bank and no overhead by the time they're 52?"

" Here another Joke for you...

Whos got two thumbs and will retired with 1.4 million in the bank and no overhead by the time they're 52?

haha..NOT YOU. "

HAH HAH, I retired last year at the age of 49 and I am not a union member... and I don't need to brage about the wealth I have! S—s to be your pal! Plus, I don't believe you either, you are lying like most other union members do.

The more I read posting from Union members the more I come to realize they are not very smart people.

Isn't that a bit of a generalization?

I mean I have two degrees, Served my country in the armed forces, Own two homes, raised two kids and paid for their education and helped them get into their own homes . I'm still young enough that I will be able to start a second career when I retire next year as a consultant and only work when I choose too.

I spent most of my career supporting managers and I can tell you that many of them were incredibly cool, nice people who took a major screwing from the company and managed to maintain their dignity...Others who were honestly just miserable people in general, I just avoided as did anyone with any sense.

So you come in here and make a post with the intention of aggravating people who got a better deal than you did....Doesn't that speak volumes about the type of person you are?

I wish you well in your career and in your life but you'd probably be miserable regardless of your situation.

what a shame.

There’s a pond out back filled with frogs. Mostly green frogs but a few bullfrogs.
They seem to live in peaceful harmony but this is not true, frogs can be cannibals. We’ve seen large frogs swallowing smaller frogs.
There are two snakes that live at the pond, one is fairly small, one twice that size. We’ve watched the larger one hunt the smaller one.
There is an owl that sometimes roosts in a pine that stands over the pond, and a hawk that occasionally drinks from the pond. A family of foxes, born this spring, come to the pond every night, we see them on infrared cameras.

If you have accomplished that, without ever inderstood the value of a union, and how it got you to where you are now, I am happy for you as well.
Live blissfully.

What is so funny @3nqx?
The only reason I am here is to make money and, once finished, to have a comfortable retirement in exchange for the 30 years of laboring that I have done, as I do not want to be a burden on my children or the government.
Did I not earn this?
Again, I ask, what strikes you as funny?

I guess you never heard of COVID? I guess you have never read the T-mobile pager here either?

Store fronts are a thing of the past for the most part in the wireless business across the board, all companies are shuttering them. I guess you spend too much time reading your union contract and looking at your millions will you claim you have while you are in your bucket truck dreaming of better days. 🙄

"Verizon Wireless page is full of gripes about unrealistic quotas, store hours, store closings, the managers are terrible people, the SM’s (whatever they are) are unfair.
Everyone is going to quit and go to TMobile stores, "

Just read all the posts. This page is all about non-union workers not believing that union workers have a lot of money on their pensions. It is easily provable that the 30 year pensions are anywhere from $750K to $900K, depending on age and title.
The Verizon Wireless page is full of gripes about unrealistic quotas, store hours, store closings, the managers are terrible people, the SM’s (whatever they are) are unfair.
Everyone is going to quit and go to TMobile stores, everyone hates the lack of social distancing enforcement. Everyone hates deciding between telesales and going to the store, if the store doesn’t close, and on and on and on.
Which would you rather?

All union members seem to care about is retiring and collecting millions. Most of them do shoddy work to boot. Greedy folk and very braggadocious these union members seem to be, pathetic.

I would say all workers that are eligible to retire without a penalty are millionaires. The formula that is used to calculate our pension is very favorable right now.

Union blew it, back when it was NXNEX wireless they wanted to join the union and were turned down. If I remember that right, 7hrs sitting in my truck all day has had a toll on my memory.

Asking for a friend, does the non-Union wireless group need flaggers or rovers? There is a huge abundance in my garage... also, in the wireless departments, if you don’t want to do work, due to ineptness or laziness, will your managers hide you in a “non productive” job? These are questions my friend is asking... thanks.

I had no issues whatsoever moving over to wireless. I applied and had the interview. 3 weeks later I was contacted by the hiring manager and HR and I got a start date. I packed up my goodies and family and moved to another State where I reported to work as a wireless tech, seamless and easy.

I think you are lying bro!

@1qvr+17fEaghI: So, you “migrated over” by simply applying? Great. Did the “migration” include keeping your service years, because it didn’t for two in our group that came from Wireless.
They would be happy to hear how to bridge their service as so far they have been told that isn’t possible.

Do what I did bro, apply for the job! If you have the skills needed to work in wireless and you are willing to move then simply apply for the job. I can't believe a grown adult has to be told this, but whatever! At Verizon internals are always given first dibs.

"I often work with VZ Wireless techs that would love to “migrate” to VZ." I don't believe you, you are lying.

Hold the PHONE! I have a coworker that moved from New Jersey to Utah which is my market. The person was working in a union shop in Jersey installing home servers. This person is now a wireless tech and we are not union. So to the person that says it does not happen. I don't know what kind of world you live in, but it's not the real world.

@1ouq well if you knew anything about the wireless networks these days you would answer your own question. Very little these days is the answer. However my answer will fall on deaf ears and the insults are forthcoming I am sure. Being that I was a CO switch tech for about 12 years and migrated over to wireless some years ago not withstanding. I also saw no reference in the OP comments about being a wireless employee, you are making things up. The OP specifically says he/she is a Verizon employee. I don't partake in the US v. Them mudslinging as you and others seem to do. I am a Verizon employee and I am thankful that I have a job and come to work each day knowing that Verizon is be the best at what we do and there is no better place to work then Verizon.

You stated you are VZW (which has their own page btw) but can you let me know how many of your calls are connected without using the overwhelming majority union labor with no layoff clause landline side? Just wondering...

Verizon operates in all 50 States and in 40 some odd counties. Only in a handful of States does Verizon have unionize workers and in those locations where there are unionized workers, it is 99.9% on the landline side of the house. It is true there are maybe 3 or 4 wireless "stores" i.e. storefronts, that have a union in them but that is all. Give COVID storefronts at any large level are a thing of the past. Sure there will be a handful of storefronts but nothing at the level we had pre COVID. The OP is correct to say that most of the labor i.e. workforce at Verizon is in fact non-union. I have been at Verizon Wireless for a tad over 10 years now and I have yet to meet a unionized co-worker. In closing; the unionized workers posting here want people to believe that they are a big part of the Verizon eco system, they are not. They are a small part of our ecosystem and in the majority of States in this country they do not even operate.

BTW layoffs happen all across the Verizon ecosystem. No-one is protected to the point they can not ever be laid off. Layoffs are part of business and it happens all the time to union labor and non-union labor.
