Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Will they reduce headcount too much to function?

There is room for a lot of people to go (between excess layers of management and useless work) but if they lay off a lot of folks, and then a lot of good folks leave voluntarily because the company has no strategy or ethics, will those who stay behind be arranging deck chairs on the titanic?

They will get rid of enough that your Current 12 hour days with mostly uninterrupted weekends will be a fond memory of the good old days. Prepare to be worked harder than ever before with no raises

Generally companies like XOM think they can hire anyone they need whenever they need them. So they'll cut as many as they can, and hire replacements when the dust settles - from university at lower salaries - or outsource as much as possible.

@ley agreed for most if not all site jobs. HQ jobs though are clearly going the way of offshoring.

And that is why they are dropped from dow and chevron is surpassing them. They think they know the answer. Instead, they should be listening to true experts instead of the "experts" that risen from within.

EM never stars a study without knowing the answer. They are only debating the +/- now

Offshoring lol.. Like someone in KL or BTC can adequately replace everyone on-site. Some roles, but not very many. It's going to create an awful dynamic for day to day operations.

EMRE is another story.

A lot of what they call “study work” is going to result in offshoring/relocation of jobs vs. eliminating them completely.

@heb+17g5pKuB, ant here. Is that sarcasm? It's not the employees' fault, they do what they're told.

Sitting back and enjoying the lack of work? I'm sorry, with very little projects actually being progressed, there isn't much work for spring to be doing. EMRE is there to support projects (and some manufacturing support on the side).

I think it may have been a joke...but seriously you could at least consolidate to spring and get rid of Hughes landing and Dallas. Once all the cuts are made you may even have spare capacity to rent out at spring....

@wup+17g5pKuB, where would the corporate attorneys, tax attorneys, Investor relations, corp strategic planning, public and government affairs, etc., people work? Payroll and invoicing can and has been going to other countries, and it’s been a mess. How are you going to get rid of all corporate departments (“Dallas”) AND Spring? I agree that a whole lot of fat could be trimmed off HQ, I work with several who don’t do anything. But how are you going to “get rid of” HQ AND Spring?

Ditto for the Dallas office...

They could probably get rid of the entire spring campus and the company would still function between the production units/downstream sites and the GBCs. That’s the reality.
