How on Earth is Comms. Exec. VP Nigel Powell still considered a valuable resource? He's hired and promoted some of the WORST VP's in NIKE history. Too gutless to lead himself. Forces the dirty work onto his "Pence" M.R. who along with Powell, is THE biggest reason Comms. morale has been the lowest in the entire company. Employees are begging for help from HR. Crickets. Powell dreams of the day he will retire to his NYC Penthouse.

@4NDR: Agree with you 100%!

I wish this had been the strategy in 2017. A lot of good people were laid off in 2017 because they simply didn't fit into the frat/sorority girl mentality despite being good, hard, efficient workers and resulting in the "bloat" getting worse.

Donahoe is doing what he was hired to do - make Nike a lean digital first company and strip out all of the bloat. That means a lot of the old guard is finished along with their "boy's club" mentality, extravagant spending, puffery, minimal value for maximum cost, etc. I imagine that this action will eliminate about 80% of what is wrong with the company and the culture.

Times have changed and so has the marketplace. I don't say this to minimize the pain and anxiety that people are feeling as many of you are getting a raw deal. But, decades of undisciplined management, hipsterism, frat boy/sorority girl behavior, hiring and promoting people without skills simply because that played sports at Oregon or in the pro ranks, and the like have brought us to this point. The company needs thinkers and hard workers, not scene makers and gym rats. The pandemic and WFH has also laid bare how much work gets done and who does it. It has all been monitored and those who literally spent half of their day working out and getting coffee pre-COVID are now exposed. Yes, some good people will get caught in the crossfire and that is a tragedy. But, a lot of lazy fast talkers and those that hide behind their well curated PowerPoint decks will be gone. Ultimately, that is good for the future of the company.

The rumor is Global Tech will not be part of these lay offs. It is my understanding Global Tech is moving it's "reorg" layoff too Jan. Probably main reason is not to disrupt holiday season which is coming fast. 2nd reason lots of new VPs that don't know anything about their orgs...so giving them time to figure it out.

Does anyone know approximately how many S Bands are laid off this month? Any insight on Global Tech? (Tech Ops/reliability, CIS, EAP, ED&A, Serve, Move, Create, etc) thanks.

And the so-called transparency is to tell you the news on the day of layoffs? Good job.

Aside from poor execution and mismanagement of the layoffs, I am puzzled why we have to endure such long periods of uncertainity. It looks to me that the employee morale is sinking lower and lower every day and that the management simply does not care. I have also hard that they will be going after S band folks / Sr Dirs this week and two to three weeks after they will deal with Directors (E Band) - so, now it's all about waiting. Torture...

@1buc, well said. My feelings exactly. Enough is enough with poor planning and poor execution. Sorry to say this but I truly dislike being at Nike.

I really wish they would just rip off the band aid. If you aren’t S band you’ll have to keep waiting a few more weeks. Over 3 months of this $&@

@1vqk, yes laptops have to be returned. If you have a company phone or a tablet, those, in some cases, are given to employees (they get stripped of information remotely via managed service).

Finally, it's here, it will be tough.

Btw, does anyone know if the laptop need to be returned? I'm thinking of buying a personal laptop, but if I got let go and can keep the laptop, that might be one and only good thing of the layoff lol.

Heard directly from my VP: this week is S-bands, week of the 19th is E/U/L bands. Leaders were told NOT to communicate this to their teams, but there are a few good apples left in the bunch who value providing transparency. It is impossible to speculate the changes, as some of the VP changes were very unexpected and terrible decisions.

Did not hear anything other than rumors on this forum where people are suggesting that this week will be about S band employees mainly Sr. Directors and the week or two after will be about E band employees mainly Directors. Just waiting for the news - one way or another.
