Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

It would be nice if we knew when severance was coming

With no paycheck last week and no unemployment either it’s going to get really tight soon... an email or something indicating severance will be paid on such and such a date would be helpful to many I’m sure. Jobs are out there, I wish everyone luck!

In the account where you get the direct deposit, check for your severance money there. It appears a lump sum appeared on Thursday. I was expecting an official hard copy check.

Unlike the other person. I didn’t get a box to send my laptop back.

If it wasn’t for this forum I would have never have checked my account today.

Dell only pays for COBRA for 2 months. Other companies are paying for 6 months even till a year. Didn't know Dell was this cheap.

I hear ya, I am going on three weeks as well with no pay, and I was hoping for severance today but still no severance. I can file for unemployment next week so hopefully that will go through no problem. I at least had a little money in savings that is getting me by and all my bills are paid, but still very frustrating, if they can lay us off that quickly with only a few days notice they should have had funds fully prepared to go, very disappointed in them regarding this issue. I honestly have no ill will towards Dell, it is what it is, I was there a long time and even though I am older I know good jobs are out there and having severance will allow me to find the right one...

I’m in Massachusetts and apparently EMC has no record of my wages, so I had to download all paystubs for the past 2 years and submit that to the Unemployment people. So, no unemployment benefits yet - waiting indefinitely- and no severance check yet. Also waiting indefinitely. Thanks Dell. Probably looking at over a month with absolutely no income coming in. Just like that.

I emailed and asked when it would be deposited and got the stock "we have 30 days" response, so I guess it will just be a nice surprise when it get there...

My unemployment was approved pretty much instantly, not sure why yours wouldn't be, Dell isn't going to hold that up and your severance won't make a difference because we are getting one lump sum and it's not being paid out like some places do, so you should have been approved pretty quickly. Because of the timing of the layoff, I did not get any unemployment for the first two claim weeks, for one of the weeks I had already been paid from Dell and for the other one they hold your first actual weeks unemployment pay until the end of your unemployment claim.

What I would like to know is if there is any additional Covid still or just the flat unemployment rate? Does anybody know? I keep getting conflicting answers... I guess at the very least I will find out next week when I file for my first official payment...

I applied for unemployment after layoff, Sept 21. Contacted unemployment today, October 6th asking about my Unemployment claim. I was informed by unemployment that They are waiting on a response from DellEMC on the severance package and the dead line for DellEMC to respond to unemployment was yesterday October 5th. You would think that DellEMC and unemployment would have had this all worked out before the layoffs not causing any additional “STRESS”. What a cluster ......

Not really, you can still get unemployment benefits while receiving the severance package. Those two things don't really affect each other.

If you accept the package, does it disqualify you from unemployment insurance in Texas?

Send HR an email and ask when you’ll see your severance.

A while ago in our offices they implemented a series of training courses for staff around financial management (at the same time that the targets were all vastly increased).

It was surprising how many in the teams were living month to month and had no savings and huge debt. Many of them were so over extended that they had to sustain a high income to get by. This is going to really test those times.
