Cisco must pay $1.9 billion in patent lawsuit

(Reuters) - A U.S. judge on Monday ordered Cisco Systems Inc to pay $1.9 billion after a Virginia company accused it of infringing patents related to complex computer network security functions.

  1. S. District Judge Henry Morgan in Norfolk, Virginia, concluded after a non-jury trial that Cisco infringed four patents belonging to the plaintiff Centripetal Networks Inc, of Herndon, Virginia.

Wow, another big big LR is looming on the horizon. More heads will be chopped to make up for that $1.9 fine Cisco is going to pay, yeah another "business expense" on the heads of worker bees.

My friends at Palo Alto are making fun of me cuz I work for Cisco - the patent-infringer aka stealer. We are thieving yet we can't beat Palo Alto or Fortinet when it comes to network security.

$1,900,000,000 fine

~75,600 employees

~$25,000-ish fine cost per employee headcount

Ouch

Lost a suit to a company that claims they invented "network security". Cisco must have had some terrible lawyers. I guess they will be going after Palo, Fortinet, and Checkpoint next :)
