Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

How nice to cut the Birthday cake when you know you may get laid off any moment!

Not sure to be excited about my Birthday on the 7th or be skeptical abt the lay offs.If targeted would be the worst Birthday gift ever :(

I got the severance package last year on my birthday! It's kind of mixed feeling. I was happy to have a big package as a birthday gift but meanwhile sad to be apart from my colleagues.

If Oct 7th is your birthday, you will be notified on Oct 8th, just as a courtesy. This is part of the diversity and sensitivity training.

Ha. As if.

When I was LR'd, I got an email (auto-generated, of course), a few days later congratulating me on my 5 years of Cisco service, how much Cisco appreciated my valuable contributions etc. and in return, I could order my 5 year service anniversary gift.

You'd think that they'd have scrubbed the LR list for people having service anniversaries during their last 30 days of employment and send them a differently worded message, or even screw them out of the cheap gold Citizens watch (one of the options available).

A message of "Thanks for your service to Cisco. While we appreciate everything you've done for us, we don't appreciate you enough to keep you but enjoy this small token of our appreciation as you exit."

Don't forget to take your birthday day of paid time of when still on the payroll.
It's far better to worry with a pint of beer during the day then sitting in front of a excel spreadsheet or a PowerPoint

I was younger than you but I “celebrated” a birthday more or less in the same way.

Really, the sooner you leave, the sooner you’ll realise how good can life be outside the company. I’m sure even your manager thinks the same.

The ER was basically North America only. And that was an offer by mail. The ELT have said that this is supposed to be personally communicated. So, it’s whenever your manager gets off her fat, lazy butt to do it. Outside the the US, we don’t even know the date, so we will not breathe easily after tomorrow, because we’ll never know.

If I'm not mistaken, in the 80% offer day the mails all came out in the A.M. hours PST for all the company (am I right? ("am I wrong? or am I just dreaming?"))

So wait till noon to celebrate (or not)

Happy Birthday in advance. Like someone already said, this is best Birthday for you ever... if saved, it’s good. If not, it’s got something even better. I know it’s easier said than done however this will be history in no time and you’ll realize that birthdays are birthdays for a reason. All the best.

It can be the best birthday gift you ever have. Cisco offers nothing to you. As a result, you really have nothing to lose. Your life will only get better from this point.
