Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Why does MW ...

Keep saying layoffs are 15%? Everywhere I look it’s more like 20-30%.

Maybe international payroll is lower?

Definitely >15% in CEMREC. MB (pres) & BM (hr mgr) would not reveal numbers using some excuse about it not being fair to others if they revealed CEMREC cuts (WTF???). Did say 58 EOID in round 4. Doing some quick calcs eyeballing old vs new position count and taking into account EOIs seems like we’re in the 45% range but some groups were completely wiped out. Hard to have trust when you get these wishy-washy answers., would be better if they just told us that they’re not gonna reveal the numbers.

It’s more than 15%.

One thing you will learn as a CEO is image is everything. If you say there is layoffs and downplay a 30% cut by only mentioning groups that are being cut 15%. It sounds much better to existing employees.

They get away with it all the time.

It’s done in the reverse as well. Especially in the political world. How many times have you heard the media misquoting our President or taking something he said out of context and making it the headline of the newspaper? It happens all the time and has contributed to the mistrust in our current day media. I don’t believe have the c^ap I hear anymore because of it.

Thanks for the math refresher.

All I am asking is which groups are below 15% reduction to balance out the fact that every group I see has over 15% reduction.

Even without high school math, I think there must be such groups, intiendo compadre?

Maybe you need to revisit high school math! The cuts are not the same in every BU or function!

30% of 400 people is 120 remaining 280

15% of 2000 is 300, remaining 1700

Overall cut for the above is 420 of 2400 or 17.5%

Use the same logic for larger BUs functions and you will hopefully get it!

The cuts are higher in specific functions [albeit smaller total number vs smaller % for larger BU/function].

It’s amazing that HR which will take a 50% cut has no leakers

We need an HR leaker.

Just FYI in TCO they announced a 45% reduction in expats. Soooo. Not sure about being untouchable.

People have been wondering this for a while. Numbers don’t seem to add up to 15%. https://www.thelayoff.com/t/14Q7YjqK

Maybe TCO people are untouchable and other people working internationally on large critical projects are untouchable as well. Also, if you are being “transitioned” to a managed service provider, does that count as a Chevron lay-off?

In the total numbers you have to take into account all the team leads, managers, champions, advisors, etc. that will NOT be cut. So, 30% of front line people and 0% of managers equals 15%.

Don’t worry, the big cuts are going to be the group everybody loves to hate: IT.
Sounds like hardly anyone is actually qualified for the software engineering jobs that were posted and direct BU support is decimated because a lot of that can be handled by low cost contractors. Technical functions will also be expected to figure out more self-service activities with very little guidance other than Workplace, productivity videos and links to Microsoft documentation.
Good news is everyone will have more digital skills so they can post for IT jobs next time and be competitive for many of the chapters.

Some groups have MUCH less. I can say the group I am managing is struggling to be filled. Many pet projects from upper management.

“The corporation has a whole will have a 15% reduction in staff (6500-7000 employees).“

That’s what I don’t get, every group I see (earth science, drilling, supply chain ...) is not doing below 15% reduction. So which are these mythical groups taking 5-10% cuts ( which basically is just EOI).

He must mean 15% involuntary layoffs with an additional 10-15% from EOI.
