Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Do they get extra points the more they torture us?

What other reasons could they have for not getting it over with by now? For letting us guess and sweat every single day? Do they expect us to break and leave? Just up and quit? Frankly, I might have even considered something like that if it was business as usual. But in the middle of a pandemic? Not gonna happen.

What’s the alternative? The old way of doing things where rumors build up over 12-18 months?

Anyone that’s been at Nike for any length of time knows that there are too many layers, too many people that can shoot something down, too many people that just block and don’t add value.

Want to complain about the culture? Valid. Maybe the culture s—s because there are too many people in power that are disconnected and do nothing other than say no. And there are too many people that hate their jobs complaining on anonymous forums, not realizing they are the other half of the problem.

Don't give them the satisfaction of getting their hooks into you.
Do your work and be kind to your colleagues, but focus on your needs and, most of all, get comfortable saying the toughest word at Nike....NO.
I say that because management will certainly demand the same output, or more, from fewer employees....be ready to say NO.

@ylq, OK...you do not share the "we will be fine" sentiment, which I respect as that is your choice and it reflects your own mindset. What are you going to do about it though?

@ylq wow. That's a lot of toxin. If you are not okay with disrespectful treatment cut out and leave. Why stay and make this place even worse for yourself and others. Thing is, you don't have what it takes to get the eff out and find another job. I get it that Nike has a toxic culture, and HR leaves a lot to be desired for. That said, employment is at will. If this is SO TERRIBLE what is keeping you here. Vacate your seat and do yourself a favor. Bye Felicia.

No...Nike HR is just sadistic. A bunch of wanna be business people who could never quite cut the cake.

What other reasons could they have? Let's see...

  1. They Do. Not. Care.
  2. They know external opportunities are scarce, so are taking their time because they can
  3. Pending layoffs keep pressure on employees to perform non-stop like rats on a wheel "or else"
  4. Spreading out the layoffs over time is better PR, rather than massive layoffs all at once
  5. HR is incompetent, inefficient and sadistic

I'm sure others can provide many more reasons. I don't share the "we will be fine" sentiments. I am NOT fine with this disrespectful treatment, and I will not forget it. Fool me once...

i am starting to think they're trying to get people to leave before they get laid off in order to not have to deal with severance and unemployment expenses

If points = $, then yes....LOL. I think we are torturing ourselves, so do not let them have that power over you. Things are difficult, yes, but we are going to deal with whatever comes our way and we will be fine.
