Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

How could we keep the good Cisco traditions

Dear common employess and ELT,

I like traditional Cisco people, I am sad to see many veterans to leave. Most of them are good people I believe. My question is that with their leaving, how could we keep the good traditions to keep company quality?

And who knows if we laid off the right people? What if the LR made company weaker and the LR will happen again and again and become a viral to a pit? I don't want to question any company decision but just feel confused.

And how could we face the black swans in such rapid world? Should we expand new product areas like defense?

You could lop from Chuck through Maria and most of her direct reports. At least the ones she brought in. Then have the company look to those that are still here with tenure at 20-25+ years and have them in more of an advisory role or advocate for the field so to speak. Those doing the work along with the first and second line managers that have the pulse of the customer. The leadership needs to be told what they need to hear, not what they want to hear. Maria has canned many good people for having the stones to give valid, defend-able positions. It is known not to push back against her. It is a career ender.

@1eav+17jJHmJo, I second your observation. Not sure whose idea it is but the trend started when JC was around. So it has been a long while. Earlier some complained about nepotism and tribalism, but those voices have long gone. The overall situation continues to spiral down. The quality has never been this bad and customers start to shy away from Cisco products. After all, why would Infosys, Tata, and Aricent care about Cisco revenue and Indian contractors have no loyalty to their employers (why should they with the way they are treated?). Yet, the senior management attributes the decline of revenue to the change of market dynamics and Covid-19. Chuck could be a good person but if he really believes social justice, he should have started from cleaning house first.

I doubt it. Back in the 80s and 90s, working for Cisco would be like an honor for an engineer. Nowadays, it's all people from Infosys and Tata and Accenture running engineering. Meaning there's no engineering: just slapping incongruent pieces together into a bloatware behemoth and trying to stuff it down the customers' throats. At least that's my experience.

There "ain't no" bringing back what made Cisco great.

This is a financial clearing house, not an innovative technology company. Buzzards can feast on the remains, but it's growth and glory days are long, long, gone.

By getting rid of chuck robbins and his ELT. They are absolutely toxic to cisco. They should all go follow their passion of social justice activists somewhere else.
