Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Layoffs over? Until 2021?

Well havent seen any major layoffs anywhere or people talking about the perfect storm till last, best for last, or even wait they dont know whats coming. I think these guys cut to the limit and cant cut anymore! Even tho they shut down our east hump in North Platte we all still have a job. Ima do whats best and keep enjoying my job as usual. No more stress they need us.

Bnsf counts a 3 4 or 5 packer as 3 4 or 5. UP counts it for what it is. 1 car. So it’s not apples to apples my friend. Check out the bn thread on here. They’re having layoffs like we were in 2019. UP #1 still

Yes, it is a mess out there. The East Hump has been opened up twice for about two days each time, since it was supposed to close. Each time cars were backed up to hell and back, everywhere. I noticed they haven’t shut the lights off this time, yet.

Just because you post the same thing repeatedly doesn’t make it true. BNSF and other competitors are taking the business from the company that’s a fact. Loosing 700 mangers to hire 500 back when a company is already over managed is stUPid but not surprising.

700 managers were fired or retired and 500 people will be hired in 2021. There’s the scoop!

Bnsf is running around 30000 to 40000 more than up. But up is still making money.

Customers leaving? Weird we have the best carloadings among all the class 1’s.

Better check those carloadings. Unless Bnsf is no longer a class one we aren’t #1

The next group in will look to continue cuts.....you can’t cut what’s already almost to the bone. In order to stay in business they have to change strategy away from PSR, customers aren’t happy with the service they are receiving and are leaving faster then they can sign up new ones.

Nothing like taking an ancient form of transportation and trying to streamline it by reducing employees, The new model being whatever roles in can roll out .less repairs less time on the rip track less service of anything. Selling off entire locations. All this to Improve efficiency and better suit the customer needs. Layoffs are not even close to being over we are nowhere near hitting that G55.

Nobody is safe regardless of whether the glass palace leadership leaves. The next leadership team will also be looking to cut. UP is never going back to the prior way of railroading. The board of directors is setting the tone with the execs and they are doing what they are told to do. The entire industry is changing and we just have to face the facts. Wishfully thinking if Fritz and Vena leave everything will suddenly revert to how things were ram prior to PSR is foolish. If you have other opportunities I would suggest leaving and starting a new career. The days of working for UP for 30 plus years and retiring are sadly over.

Counting your eggs before they hatch. No one at this company is safe until the leadership in the glass palace changes.

It was mentioned in a thread a few days ago, that the East Hump was closed. So either someone is lying about what's going on in NP Bailey yards, or a lot of people don't know what either side is doing.
I have been told by people who work out there that train traffic was backed up clear to Julesburg a few days ago. Vena told the white hats out there that if there were anymore backups like that, Bailey yards would be shut down and made into a run through.
Personally, it sounds like a total mess and absolutely not one employee knows anything about anything going on out there.
