Literally every LinkedIn update I am seeing showing "Ready to Work" updated profiles from people who have accepted the Cisco severance package has been a white middle-aged or older male. Were women or people of color also impacted?

The layoff has nothing to do with race, color, or religion. Say no to bigotry and get your head out of BS.
I am in my early 20's, a latina & I have been at Cisco for 3 years. Earlier, I was told by my manager that my job has been impacted. Also, I know 3 other early in career employees (1 black and 2 latinos) in 2 different orgs who have also been told the same today so minorities are also getting impacted.
POC here , me along with 5 of my friends got impacted today so yeah stop playing the race card here.Put yourself in someone else's shoe who is on a visa , been in the country for 15 yrs stuck in the backlog, with American born children
( who don't know any other country than this) and soul breadwinner and not entitled to any umemployment benefits. Some empathy at this time will really help, bashing other races to vent out is not going to help either.The truth is it's really a sad day for you as well as us. Yep, my dad was affected by the LR today. We are South Asian. I have been checking these forums for the past few weeks so I could prep him for today. lol
What's wrong with you? do you seriously believe skin colour is one of the factors for the layoff?
Lots of people of color were laid off. What are you talking about? Also lots of people laid of in their 20s and 30s.
Wealthy people hold the majority of power in this nation. Elites oppress people of all races and nationalities to make more money. Yes, it's possible for white people to be oppressed in America.
I suggest you visit a coal mining or abandoned auto manufacturing town. Wealthy people now use race as a method to divide poor people.

55 white male and LR'd a few years back. I don't know what the answer is. I think our age group was at the right place right time when IT / Networking took off and definitely rode the high-tech wave to early retirement. I quadrupled my salary between age 24 and 30 by shifting from job-to-job. The decade of the 90s was the cash cow. I agree I had opportunities that were partially because of my ethnic background, but I did literally almost fry my brain with the number of hours worked before Cisco and at Cisco. I was let go at the 18 year mark and had no issues finding multiple other jobs, but have gone to a slower pace for health reasons. I don't know overall if the IT / Networking market is ever going to get back to that type of opportunity. In the 90s, they couldn't just do "everything remote" because it wasn't available yet - so there was big money in designing and implementing all the older gear that now is finally morphing into it's last lifestyle phase of a VM in AWS. If I was 24 and starting out again in 2020 in this career field, I don't know if I would choose it. Back then - if you were a good worker - you were in high, high demand. Now not so much. I had to get a letter from my old employer to gain approval to interview at Cisco in late 90s, because my employer at the time used tons of Cisco gear. Times change. Situations change. I don't know what I would do if I had to start over again. To all LR'd good luck.

Unless you are a white man over 50 working in high tech. The only “privilege” I have had over the last decade is being in constant fear of being laid off and not being competitive in the job market due to age.
While not as ugly as the legacy of slavery - it would be an insult to try to say they are similar - it is still a very real bias in the tech industry.
I’m happy I ducked and avoided layoffs at Cisco since the first one in 2001 and have been rewarded with a decent CEP package. I’m 62, still have my health and will start enjoying life more. Work? Maybe the guy who comes in early at my favorite local nursery to water the plants......
Tech is brutal. Yes you make a good salary, but I don’t know that it is enough compensation to make all the turmoil and stress worth it.
If we (not just Cisco) can't return back to work then we can close this shop for good. Nothing is good about this "stay at home" BS and if anyone thought this will be OK and make 0 impact in economy then those people are fools. Everyone needs to return back to work that's the only fix. Corporate world or not. PS: And we all know who wants to do another lock down don't we?

Yes, they were (including me). I am a Black woman who’s observed a lot of passive aggressive hostility towards Cisco POC on this blog and it’s disgusting. White men hold the majority of power and wealth in this nation so you’re not any danger of becoming oppressed.
There were a few younger white men also impacted.
