No personal hate for H1-Bs here. But I am curious if all H1-Bs were laid off considering the huge number of American citizens that lost their jobs. If any H1-B remains (unless they are genuinely the very best) we may have a problem given the new regulations that came out yesterday.

I wish question were ' are consultant H1Bs impacted today'. Cisco has many fulltime engineering/marketing H1Bs in 20-30s. I know many today who are really smart, high paid, law-abiding, ,and their project/team was ax-ed along with them. No one was spared based on race/color/immigration or any such. Please note : I am H1B so i follow this law closely. The latest enforcement from DHS has 'ALREADY been in implementation since many years'. Our resumes HAVE to match our degree / coursework and professors/ex-managers send signed letters to confirm. Companies like Cisco vet very thoroughly. We cannot even file for Green Card if our pay is not above average for the State. Offshore consultancies however, i am unsure to what extent they follow.
So, question to ask i iterate: How many H1B consultants are impacted.
Purely a pre-election PR move. Like many Trump executive orders, it won't pass constitutional muster- and this case, a district judge has already rejected it.
H1-Bs are a red herring anyways- companies will just outsource.
The vast majority of H1B visas at Cisco are consultants... easy method to avoid labor laws, health insurance benefits, severance packages, and retirement benefits.
It will cause a problem to contractors as Cisco is known to pay peanuts as rates to the vendor companies and they pass along some of it as wages to the contractors , since they wont be able to pay higher wages - they will either demand higher rates from Cisco or move out their contractors...
Cisco H1B employees will be paid on par I think so they shouldnt be impacted .
Having said that I disagree with the premise that American citizen jobs are getting impacted because of H1B's . That theory has been proven wrong many times over. In fact American economy is benefitting tremendously by the lower cost H1Bs .
H1-Bs were affected too. Dont think the decision was based on your skin color or work authorization or citizenship
They can't be LR'ed. Most are in their late 20s to early 30s and make peanuts compared to real American-born workers.
The new regulation that came out yesterday is just an Pre election thing. The regulation was just passed it is not yet approved. It will have to go through many phases for approval which will not happen for next few months to years. Previously there were lot of regulations passed and wasn’t approved. It is just an election tactic according to me.
