Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

October 30 or November 22

If I got this correctly, the package is exactly the same in both cases? So then why give two end dates? Why would anybody choose October 30 when the alternative is a (nearly) extra month of pay while being able to search for a new job? What am I missing here?

I was told you still have to do your daily duties until exit date.

Nov. 22 exit date may be useful for someone in interview process - it's easier to find a job while still employed...usually. There is no financial difference between 10/30 and 11/22 choice...

after I logged off the severance package hyperlinks and returned to Outlook, my entire Inbox was wiped out one by one. First all my Focus emails, then those in Other. I went to a saved personal folder, same thing. Rebooted, still all gone. IT support could not help. Anyone else have this issue? Laid off then 45 minutes wasted with tech support. Cruel and unusual punishment.

I accepted the Oct 30 leave because I have a job lined up already and don't want to get pinged or have any responsibilities at Cisco any longer than necessary.

Once you're notified, there's no need to work. Leave the rest to the bozos to figure out.

I’m confused about this too. I called HR support and they were also confused. They said to wait for a info session. So sounds like we get six months severance if we chose oct 30 or nov 22 as our end date? I was hoping today would be my last day. Who is actually motivated to work?

Some people have jobs lined up already. That's it. If you read the wording, you still have job responsibilities and can technically lose the package if you aren't doing those responsibilities. But in reality, unless you have a d*ck manager, you can use that time to apply to other jobs and slowly transition things out.

@miw You can be under the table and no one will know.

Who said to work both? Work your "new" job and wing the "old".

There's text in the paperwork about complying with the COBC, which includes moonlighting, which that would be. Want to risk 6 months of severance over noncompliance for 1 month of pay? Not me, thanks.

"The package amount is reduced if you 'stay and look'"

This is not the stay and look option. Even with the voluntary exit option there is a choice between leaving on Oct 30 or Nov 23rd with the same package. So the latter option in essence gives 3 weeks of extra pay and banefits.

Yes I'm confused about it too. My manger said he will need to assign new work if I choose the standard exit date (i.e. NOV 23rd). I had kind of made up my mind to leave by October (I was aware for a month that I would be on the list). But now leaning towards this new option.

@OP You got the dates wrong, plus you receive a smaller package

You're missing that some people have jobs already lined up and can't work both.

@ndt Are you sure? That's not how I understood it, but I might be wrong.
