Thread regarding Pioneer Natural Resources Co. layoffs

My apologies to field employees,

So after months of stress field employees who don’t know what individual contributor means but showed up to work through the pandemic while the rest of the company “worked from home” can finally breathe a sigh of relief. Those spared managed two or three times the work while this ridiculous idea of a task team took place. That was a giant waste of time and from the outside looking in it was evident that 20-30 field employees kept field Ops running company wide while the rest of the company sheltered in place. Field employees rotated through the task team which by all accounts was an abject failure. Those lucky souls who made the cut had their teams destroyed and even as an employee who has been lucky enough to work from home I was hoping yesterday’s meeting would announce a bonus of sorts for the people who worked in the field and kept the oil flowing to pay our salaries. Worked with minimal support and under horrible circumstances wondering if they would be released or reassigned for the second time in as many years. After the blood letting my sources on the ground tell me most of them now wish they got the package. Who can blame them? Not I in the Ivory tower, not I who knows those who got the package are getting paid every two weeks until December when they get their handsome reward for being under performers. At what point is the company going to look to the field and take care of the backbone of what’s left of Pioneer? As a former field employee it’s hard to imagine how morale was impacted and those employees still show up and work hard day and night. It seems the company thinks they are expendable but I assure you they aren’t. Not getting anything for sticking it out under the circumstances while hearing people submit questions in the all employee meetings about working from home forever and looking for kudos from upper management about how good they are doing working remotely has to be maddening. I know I do my best to support our field employees but I’m in the minority. I urge my coworkers to thank the field guys and support them every chance you get. Without them, we don’t have a Pioneer. Instead of a bonus or offer to buy PTO back from those who couldn’t take PTO because they had nobody to cover them (I’ve been told this by numerous people) they win the consolation prize of a book. I don’t know how or if morale will improve out there but I understand how they all must feel. I thank god I was able to work my way up but don’t forget where I came from. Upper management should immediately arrange to spend some time on the ground close to the wellhead and make sure the people who are left know Pioneer cares. I’m truly thankful for their hard work but the company as a whole doesn’t seem to project those sentiments. If any field employees see this post I personally thank you for your dedication and am sorry the company doesn’t recognize your hard work and sacrifice. Keep your heads up!

Upper management that was under performing at their job got to stay and pushed out others that were excelling and built teams that were functioning fine with less manpower and support from those same upper mgt. It's a joke everyone know the truth.

To highlight how f*ked Pioneer is, they released, in one small department, 3 of its most experienced folks. They were nowhere near retirement, plus that departments manager and kept 3 supervisors to manage under 10 people. I'm curious what happened to the 7 to 8 employees per supervisor rule? Flattening the curve my butt. I have an idea, get rid of everyone who knows how to do their jobs more competently than the supervisors so you preserve your power.

Those are the actions of a company doomed to fail.

Agree with most of this, but the people let go were not underperformers.

As someone who works in LCO, this sentiment is spot on. Well said.

Amen! This lockdown shows which people Contribute the most toward maintaining production. Hint: they’re not working from home/LCO.
