Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Yes, it is here

Package overall is decent, if not good: 6 months + 1 week per year >= 10. Compared to that id–tic retirement package, this is good. Cisco just can't be generous. The aforementioned years must be "completed". That is, if this year is your 12th year, doesn't matter if you're in the 11th month of the year or the 1st month, this year doesn't count since it's not completed. It's only 1 week's pay, Chuck.

I'll have a post with my experience at Cisco once I'm actually out of there. My only advice to young engineers out there: don't bother applying.

"Half of the last retirement package. But the packages do get smaller as the company gets closer to closing the doors."

Not sure why you would compare ER package to LR package, Cisco has never given higher LR package AFAIK. It has given the same package several times and a bit lower some of the times.
Just FYI I was hoping for one and got one. I am happy.

If you compare to other companies, Cisco's severance packages are very generous. Remember years ago when HP split up? They released thousands of workers without a paying them a dime! HP is at least 4 times larger than Cisco and with corresponding revenue dollars. This was an appalling act on HP's part.

Think the LR beat the heck out of the ER, all things considered.

To those who aren't quite familiar with the labor market in Silicon Valley, these numbers may seem dumbfoundedly generous. But they are not. It's just Silicon Valley. Here, you make 100,000 and you are poor: can never buy a house. Now companies play games like bonuses, severances, free charging, free food, etc, etc. Cisco is notorious for paying its employees low. I once recruited a friend to come work with me, and he was astonished at the initial offer he got: below his current salary for a small non-startup company! Once you get your salary, that's it. It'll be years if you get an increase if at all. And if you're an old timer there, just try to pry how much a new colleague is getting and if he's nice enough to tell you, you'll likely fall to the ground once you know the difference between your salary and his.

NOT bad at all! I worked HARD for another company for six years. My entire team was dissolved with only 6 hours notice and we only got 1 week of pay per year of service...so 6 weeks for me. I think Cisco is being pretty generous with not only their packages BUT to let employees know this far in advance is incredible! Not very many companies give this much lead time before being let go. SO many companies are struggling right now and let people go as soon as COVID hit. Cisco continued to pay even their contracted red badge employees (like the cafeteria workers) that weren't even working when COVID first hit. Layoffs were inevitable, unfortunately. Praying for all those that are now in the job market...
