Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

thank you for the memories Sydney tac

spent a wonderful few years working here and made some life long friends.

The commitment to customer service was unrivalled, often working long hours and thinking about customer issues into the night.

There has been a heavy focus on customer experience the past few years but I suspect this will dramatically fall in the next few years especially for Australian customers.

Goodluck to all, remain positive and take care of your mental health.

Thank you Sydney TAC

Sydney TAC had 9 teams 6 are fully gone including the team I am in. ACI and 2 other teams are left but we all know in the next quarter or 2 they will also be gone. Good luck all it's been fun and thank you to our customers posting some nice comments in the threads!

Cisco continues to try and cost cut their way to growth. Eventually even India will be too expensive and they will have to go to Elbonia. :(

I talked w/ someone in Sydney TAC yesterday and he was 'safe', so business as usual there it appears minus some mates. Sorry if you were laid off and reading this. Sydney TAC is amazing on your resume though. Smart people there for sure.

Covid-19 has opened eyes for major corps. Employees can be located anywhere. So expensive cities like Sydney, San Francisco, London, etc will feel a corp-flight.

As a customer, the TAC has bailed me out personally of more than a few nightmares (of our own doing) over the years.

If outsourcing the TAC is true, huge bad move. Don't do it.

A very tenured team. Sad to see all of them go. Cisco TAC is going to lose a wealth of experience and this is definitely going to affect CSAT in the upcoming year.

I understand that Sydney is a very expensive city and wages are also high but I do wonder what was considered before the mass layoff.

  1. Consider only having one floor in the building and permanent wfh for all tac engineers. This would have saved a huge amount money
  1. Have a progressive salary cut. 5% for low income earners, 10, 15 the higher you go. There are folks with 500k+ salaries. I am sure they can afford to take a small paycut DURING A GLOBAL PANDEMIC!
  1. Force employees to take PTO (especially those who have months of PTO remaining)

I am sure there are alot of other ways to cut costs.

Cisco is continuing to operate the way they always have. Lose some money, panic, cost cut, layoff, repeat. This erodes customer and employee sentiment. And this is reflected in the stock price where the ath (all time high) has not been seen for 20+ years...

We're moving into a different world now - it's time to think and innovate differently.

How do you put a price on the years of experience these engineers have in the mature TAC centres like Sydney and eliminate good folks with the aim of cost cuts ?

Management has made a mistake imo by moving to lower cost centres with scant regard to customer service virtues, often fudged with pseudo stats.

Time will prove the fallacy of their ways unfortunately at the expense of 75 Engineers.

As an Engineer working with some of the toughest SP customers, I feel proud to be part of “Cisco’s engineering team” . The confidence that I carry with me is partly because of the fantastic reputation that came with Sydney Tac. I know I can always count on a group of engineers who are truely the real gurus. From small to CAP cases, they have provided unparallel support and that made our lives easier as a sales team.

I am devastated by the news.

I am going to miss these heroes. I can only wish all of you best of luck.

Thanks mate
