Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Earlier exit date

Did anybody without a job offer opt for the earlier exit date? I don't see many upsides to it if there is no job waiting for you, so I'm guessing you'd have to be really tired of this place to choose to leave at the end of October rather than a month later.

I doubt it was a shock to your leaders. Your immediate manager, maybe, but not your skip-level manager or higher.

Why would they be 100% focused on helping your find another position when you say they have concerns because nobody on your team can do your job?

Best case, the job you performed is going to be no longer supported and no one will need to do it and they, out of the goodness of their heart can focus on finding you a new job.

Worst case, they're too busy scrambling around trying to get you to document what you do and how you do it so they can give it to a co-worker to do until they can bring in a red-badge contractor for a year and wind down your job or end up converting that red-badge to an employee at a lower wage than you used to make.

Most likely case, they don't care and will dump your job on a co-worker and let them sink or swim as best they can and simply wave goodbye to you as you walk out the door. I'm guessing they're telling you how focused they are on finding you a new job hoping to get you to document what you do during your last 45-ish days so someone else can pick it up after you leave.

Do not depend on your leaders to find you a new job.

Take the standard (late) exit date. It makes Cisco pay you more in total, and cover your benefits/heath care longer.

Now, if you want to put in 100% or less effort during that time, it's up to you.

I am one who loves Cisco and my current position. I got notice and it was a shock to my leaders and myself. I thank them for working so hard for me right now as they have concerns of their own on nobody on team can do my job but they are 100 percent focused on helping me find another position! That is great leadership! But with that no real clue how they decided these choices on lay-offs. With that I have same question on the benefit of early exit versus standard!! A few more weeks of pay and transition giving us more time to look for a job deferring the package that seems same either way so a no brainer to stick around for standard leave! Also you collect a bit more PTO that they are paying out in closing check. I am not seeing benefit of early exit!

Well, the only upside for staying till November 23rd is the medical coverage whicch is not that big deal. why we should stay till then while the pay is the same?

Funny thing is I had 2 big bosses shouting exactly same words to us. Then one followed her previous boss to AWS, and the other to Tesla. So much for great.

go with standard exit. there is a reason for it being called standard. Early exit you miss on a medical coverage also otherwise pay is same paid till end of nov 23.

are people still working, you should be a workaholic to work given you are laid off.

I understand people are upset. However, in Cisco’s defense, they really are trying to give their employees who have been there a while options. Bottom line if you weren’t happy you should have left on your own.
Cisco has always been good to me and I’m thankful for the opportunities, the knowledge I’ve gained and the lasting friendships that I’ve made. I took the early retirement as it was a great option for me. I know I’m not alone when I say that Cisco is a GREAT PLACE TO WORK!
