Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

If there’s no work in the wireline side, why are they hiring?

Strange that there’s a hiring right now, can’t make sense of it. Mid-state adding 70 techs, mostly Westchester.
This makes no sense as usual, the workload is so light for them now. We need techs here downtown, but mid-state?

"You did not even read the article you mo–n!"

You haven't even read the entire article, let alone follow the thread and in a total lack of self-awareness, call someone a "mo-n."

Too funny.

Considering thread topic morphed into being that people don’t want home Internet and are happy with just hotspots AND you read the article, losing TV subscribers was offset by FiOS home Internet, which apparently people do want after all

You did not even read the article you mo–n! "The Fios unit did, however, see 61,000 customers cut its cable TV service. "

Wireless added a total of 283,000 subs... however Fios had 144,000 adds minus the 61,000 = 83,000 total adds on TV service... yeah you are really burning it up over there at fios... 🙄

Internet research shows people want Fios home internet/wifi

You Verizon people need to read your own website. Verizon is offering https://www.verizon.com/5g/home/

As it turns out there is coverage in my area, I am going to look into this as the price seems much better than my current cable service.

Umm.... this is exactly the way we use it in our household bro! Keep on tossing up trash. Everyone knows you are desperate for your jobs that are going away and being replaced with wireless devices. I have been using wireless router from Verizon for nearly a full year and soon we will get the 5G home router.

"While mifi might be ok for the solitary wireless employee who's living alone, if you have a family that is streaming three different tv shows, while playing Minecraft and doing schoolwork on their laptops, while face timing with their friends. You're gonna want some 1gig Fios. Just sayin. "

@bkge+17lVHCHo Not so fast there young blood. I actually have a cheaper rate with my mifi then with the corded service. Maybe in some oddball cases you have a point but for us are watching out penny's mifi is better.

Verizon peeps know all about hotspots and vz wireless home internet. It's just that it's not available everywhere, it's expensive, and there are probably data caps. Wireline wins again!!!!

There is a lot of buzz around 5G, Still waiting for any actual service. By the time that happens, we’ll all be retired (wireline). You wireless guys will be looking for work, as amazon and space x will have taken over internet access, it will probably be free with my prime subscription.

Anyone ever notice all the buzz in and around wireless as it's exploding? All the talk is about 5G, not fiber or wire which is basically a dead tech. How many people have a home phone again? Even home internet is dying. Take myself for example. I cut the cord years ago. I have cradlepoint and Verzion wireless as my ISP. For TV I have Dish.

Cutting the cord!

The entire city of Seattle and also Vancouver BC has cell networks totally built on Microwave BH. Those 2 companies are T-mob and Telus. No fiber to any parts of those networks. I am an installer for the microwave networks in these areas. Even the small cells are on microwave. We just installed installed a small cell a few weeks ago int he Gaslight district that had a solar panel with battery backup and a mmw microwave for its bh. Amazing really!

So please, get off your high horses Verizon as fiber optics is old school and modern cell networks are moving to all OTH for the BH. If you think this is BS then I can't help you. You are just not well educated and I don't want to waste a brain cell convincing you that you are wrong.

Verizon traffic and RF engineer here, 16 years of service and worked in three VZW markets. Very little traffic from VZW rides on VZB fiber. There are entire tier 1 markets across the USA in VZW that have no traffic on VZB fiber, period.

Landline people have no idea what is going on in VZW they are clueless. They don't know how the VZW network are built out on a national scale. None of these union landline clowns have the educations to work on a wireless network from the word go. Entire wireless networks around the world are built without fiber optic backhauls. It's very common because it cost too much to maintain fiber and copper and it's not as reliable as ringed microwave, 5G and mesh BH networks.

Right, and why did Verizon buy so much fiber for 2017 thru 2020 a few years ago?

https://www.corning.com/worldwide/en/about-us/news-events/news-releases/2017/04/verizon-agrees-to-1-point-05-billion-dollar-three-year-minimum-purchase-agreement-with-corning-for-next-generation-optical-solutions.html

  1. 4 million miles each year added to the network. 2017, 18, 19, 20. Yeah, ummm no, you don’t understand to what extent the whole company footprint and traffic relies on fiber. Wireless is not the end all, be all you think it will be.

You have no clue as to the fiber needed for the backbone outside of wireless. The legacy VZ wireline in the northeast isn’t the only thing Wireline has, the legacy Vzb, Xo, Mfs, brooks, mci, mfs, worldcom fiber network is expansive. Every fortune 100 company has circuits on our network, the govt circuits in Washington DC alone is crazy, and a lot of those won’t ever be put on a wireless connection due to National security reasons. Fiber isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

South Korea and Japan and most of Europe are building 5G without fiber EBH. We are taking a more cautious approach at VZW as we build out phase 1. Our long term design plan will eliminate connection backhaul points over fiber or copper and will be done virtually within the 5G RF mesh. It's wishful thinking that fiber and copper have a future, they don't. Those transport services are a thing of the past and people that deny this are either extremely daft or are in extreme denial. These clinger-ons to copper and fiber can't explain how all the other first world counties are building out 4 and 5G networks without using fiber or copper EBH because their unions don't allow for a member to be educated in what is the latest and greatest in cell networks. Companies like Ceragon will be leveraged to remove fiber and copper EBH in 5G networks starting in 2021, that is a fact.

If I working in the copper and fiber deployment world I would start looking for another job.

This just shows how little you union id–ts know about wireless. Less and less fiber will be used for 5G in the future and the Gnode B's that are currently connected to fiber will be removed from the fiber EBH when 5G EBH is up and running. We already have 37 GNode B's on 5G EBH. For you union id–ts that can't understand what I just said let me dumb it down for you. All that is needed for a 5G node will be power, that is it. EBH is through the 5G network RF layer, no fiber, no copper.

Keep on lying to yourself as we laugh at you for being the fool. Same thing was said about the floppy drive, and the CRT.. Try to by a brand new CRT TV or a 5 1/5" floppy drive. Even in the radio world of coax and connectors this is going away and being replaced with fiber optic connections. Copper is a dead tech and has it's days numbered. For career sake I would never tell someone to go into the world of copper telephony or services.

Just look up a company called Monkey Brains... no copper wires, high speed internet over microwave.

More Union workers complaining... I thought working at Verizon / being a union member is bliss, total bliss and there are no problems! Every union member a millionaire, retiring at 50 and living the good life... That is what all these union jacka$$es have been posting here forever!

Why would anyone be opposed to adding more employees, even if there is no work. I mean, according to union members everyone is guaranteed a job, no matter if there is work for them or not! Just higher everyone, pay them a million a year, forget about actual work!

One always can tell when a union member is lying, their lips are moving.
