Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

This is still a great company

People on this forum can really piss me off sometimes. I don't care about all the layoffs, that doesn't negate the fact that this is still one of the best companies to work for! Find me one other O&G company that has job security? I'm betting you can't name any. Layoffs are just a fact of life, deal with it and consider yourself lucky you work here.

Some of y’all never got acquired by Marathon Petroleum and it shows. Chevron is a blessing. Marathon treated us like sh—t! Chevron is already 100x better than Marathon in the way they’re treated people. I’ve heard a lot of good feedback from Noble employees. Not to mention it’s a great place to work in general.

Ex Nobloid here ... it’s all relative, as bad as it may seem, while it probably is not as great a company as before, look at companies like Noble. Since the new CEO came in in 2015 and elevated lots of his BP friends, we saw a systematic dismantling of everything that had made the company a growth machine for over 10 years, took away our best benefits, drove the company into the ground and developed a toxic work culture. Then no other choice but to sell for song (less than NOble’s 2005 market cap).

Yes CVX has taken some bad hits, but it’s still so much better off than many other places.

Back In the day we did great technical work and used it to make sound decisions. We had decent work lunches and dinner with drinks. We jetted all over in style. We had a lot of fun and made a lot of money for the company. Those days are gone. Even if prices recover we can’t seem to focus on creating value or malign good decisions or taking intelligent risks. A grim work place.

".....is STILL a great company" This is the subconscious screaming what you feel deep inside is no longer true. STILL equals hope that the shadow will go away and that somehow everybody just realizes that Oil's fair price is 100 bucks per barrel and that it all was a terrible misunderstanding.

But the truth is just flashing before your eyes, just wait until R4 results are announced before another cut is made next year once the redundancies with Noble are truly understood. MW gave you a hint this week @ CNBC.

Don't get too comfortable buddy.

Best of luck, OP. You're right, there was a time about 10 years ago when Chevron was a great company and a great company to work for. It's the reason I picked Chevron over the other multinationals. Assuming you're not cradled in a management position, the day you turn 50 is the day Chevron is going to turn its back on you, from that point on you're just praying oil prices stay high so you can keep your job. Yes, good thing about Chevron is they do tend to give a very nice golden EOI on your way out.

@vev, you don't need 26 years to get the 52 weeks severance this round. Please catch up. And yes, having years at CVX on the resume is excellent. Job shop much? I have several offers already. Maybe it's your attitude. Keep looking.

Good luck, OP. You have the right attitude, but in reality, working hard and smart at Chevron for more than 26 years, may not be an asset to you anymore. Chevron will sadly trade your talent and high paying salary for savings and sitting some entitled lazy millennial at your desk. At least you’ll get a parting gift of 1 year salary and subsidized COBRA medical for your effort.

OP.

You are dedicated! Why don’t you post openly and not anonymously? You should be proud of your resume and 52 weeks severance.

It might take a while to wash all that brown sh!t off your nose. Oh wait! Your doing this anonymously! How can you get the recognition you deserve?

I'm the OP, am a dedicated and diligent worker with a work ethic and understand that nothing in life is free, even if you feel that way when others pay for it. I have an impressive resume thanks to Chevron, and I also have 52 weeks of pay and Cobra subsidies as a parting gift to help me get on my way to a new career or job at another company in these trying times. Thanks for the support though!

Why is OP even on this board?, let alone reading it? It’s called the layoffs for a reason.

Maybe he enjoys getting worked up

The OP sounds like he/she already has a job secured. Tip: If you’re in round 4, don’t presume you have a job until the process is over.

OP either was selected in an earlier round or has a family member who sits in building A in San Ramon.
