I know there are layoff rounds from time to time. Do you know if they tend to lay off people who just got hired by Intel (e.g., 6 or less months of tenure with the company).

Don’t believe all the timelines listed here I worked for 2 years at intel and was successfully both the years..all that matters is weather your manager is an a*e or not, if he is, it doesn’t matter if you get good rating or how long you work for the company!
If they hand out a VSP I'd take it in a heartbeat. But since they only give out ISPs to the rank and file (not execs, who are grossly overpaid for what they do), f Intel and I'll milk this old cow until the only thing that comes out is festering pus, which is the internal state of the company now.
New employees may get eliminated for pretty much any reason during their probation period (which was nine months back in the day). During one two year stretch I saw one group cut three different people at their nine month mark. It was sad that they couldn’t find more suitable work for them, and it certainly raised a question as to their selection process. Once you make it past nine months, your safe until you pass the 18 month mark.
Intel mostly discriminates against older employees.
Less than 6 months on and already worried about layoffs, get out of there. So many better places to spend your time and life at.
Don't they show you the 'layoff room' as a part of new employee orientation.
No. They do some arbitrary BS criteria. They won't even use any specific excuse anymore.
This doesn't apply if your entire group gets cut. Then you're SOL.
No. You don't get ranked the first year. So it would take at least a year and half to get a bad review. If you're doing really bad, I'm sure you could get fired. When I started there was a clause that you could let go for away reason in the first 6 months.
