Quad Tree at EMHC

Is the tree in the quad still alive? Last time I saw it big chunks of bark were falling off. Anyone know how much was spent on that tree?

So what would DW do if that tree gets hit by a lightning and dies?

It was also the second tree the first one died. But hey trying to transplant a 100 year old tree and think the root system wouldn’t die is just bat s&@t crazy.

Tillerson should be hit with a million dollar fine + damages.

I just love this thread because it’s so representative of the idiocy going on around Exxonmobil.... and “ ExxonMobil Houston campus tree” is trending up on google lol. I have so many similar examples that just seem normal to Exxon but the rest of the world would cringe ... this one seems like perfect metaphor for all of us who work on campus, just like that tree dying one way or another ExxonMobil k–ls your soul.

With the money they spent on that tree, they could have purchased one cheaper and planted it. Crazy!

Yes, it was well over $1 million for the tree in the quad. It is proudly called “the million dollar tree” and it has been struggling to survive since it was moved.

The tree was one of the oldest in the swamp -like over 100 years old- and they decided to transplant it to the center to symbolize how we were all moved from our various sites in Houston and literally uprooted from Fairfax and Dallas and converfed here in the campus ... seeing it slowly die breaks my heart but 7s also the perfect symbolism ... another expensive folly by MB -or was it NC?

Are you talking about the multi-story LEGO Christmas trees? Those were cool but must have cost a fortune.

How ridiculous is spending $1 mil in a tree. No wonder Chevron is kicking our a–.

How about the painted art roofs of the parking garages. Did they paint the roof when they expanded the garage by the gym?

What I want to know is who picked the placement of doors with badge readers on the quad. In August it is so frustrating that the logical doors to enter don’t have readers.

Every time I walk past the tree it just makes me sad and angry.

The tree is pretty representative of the state of affairs for the company in recent memory.

Overspend on some huge and excessive venture, only for it to not pan out and force employees to work on fixes for many years afterward.

Speaking of wasted money how about the books they printed and other welcome to campus items. I remember the hardcover book as well as several nonsense items on each desk when we arrived.

I would love to know the story behind it. Perhaps an offhand comment made by a senior manager turned into someone’s idea for their PDS accomplishment and then once they sold the idea had to spend a ludicrous amount of money to not be the one who k–led the tree.

Don't waste your time around the tree. Go hold the handrails you lo5ers.

I remember when we first moved into the new campus watching the tree whisperer periodically walk around the tree and poke holes into the ground around it. No doubt he was a high paid external consultant flown in from somewhere.

Rumor was it was $1m to move it, not sure if that’s true however I’ve heard it referred to as “The million dollar tree” by many people.
