Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Schadenfreude ?

Isn't all this $hitshow actually playing into millennials' and younger folks mentality and they really like it ?
From what I could see they mostly have zero empathy, are totally self-obsessed, tend to think that someone owns them a recognition, promotion and raises and if they don't get it after a few months of work then they will rebel like h3ll ? Plus they seem to mostly lack any team spirit, it's all "me, me , me !".

I think they might be having fun now, seeing many senior, knowledgeable employees getting the boot and they might be taking these idi0tic jokes, fun and games at the Chuck-ins as a wink to them from ELT: "hey guys see how we get rid of these old farts and you know you will be taking their places" ?

Change my mind it's not the case !

OP might be just about right - only not for millennials but for fresh grads - especially in/from remote parts of the globe or fresh from the boat...

not sure where you get this impression that anyone enjoys this. Last week I watched some amazing 20+ year Vets full of talent and knowledge walk right out the door.

Extremely disappointed to say the least. Then to see this fake #1 place in the world to work joke made it even worse

"Between 1990 and 2000 my salary quadrupled."

  • and that is why corporations lobbied for more h1b visas

Millennial here. Every time I see it used as a pejorative I am truly amazed at the rainbow of properties we supposedly have - naive, egotistical, flippant about jobs and entitled? Seriously, how do you form these opinions? Watching fox news and incidental runins with the kids you barely raised while working 60 hours per week? We are accutely aware of how f—ed up the handling of the company and its woes by ELT is. Dividing laborers against eachother by this stupid arbitrary distinction of age only serves leadership. Focus your anger on them

Us +50 year old folks had the main benefit of being in our 20s in the 1990s when the techo-boom first really hit.

Between 1990 and 2000 my salary quadrupled. I don't think folks in their 20s in tech will ever see anything like that again.

I don't blame young people for high expections and the "me" culture. It really was no different back then.

Try to save as much as you can while you are young.

It has been a long road to work the IT cr@pfest for 30+ years, but the best part is still working but realizing you can walk anytime you want because you saved the right way.

Chuck and Fran Bio
Narcissistic personality disorder — one of several types of personality disorders — is a mental condition in which people have an inflated sense of their own importance, a deep need for excessive attention and admiration, troubled relationships, and a lack of empathy for others

Millennial here, have put in 40-70 hr weeks for the past 2 years. Tapped on the shoulder regarding LR like our whole team of Genz + Millennials. I think the biggest issue is here for those that are kept on amongst us, there will be definitely a Stockholm syndrome for being a survivor and maybe even feeling closer to the company from this.

You can be assured that we are not drinking Chuck, Fran, or Gerri's kool-aid and are looking for new job as we speak

  • then you millennials need to stop the id–ts of your generation spoiling your good name. I spent the Chuck-in on an intervention with an SP customer, rather than massaging my mental health and pushing SJW buttons.

Another millennial here, and I also tend to disagree. I'm not happy that a lot of great people I work with are getting let go. I would say there are always people that just think they can coast by, but that really isn't dependent on age. And I think what you just described is more of a type of person, rather than a millennial. That whole millennial stereotyping is a quick cash grab to make you "understand the millennials", which in itself is a ridiculous claim where someone is trying to generalize a whole generation.

Not sure I totally agree. I think it’s a sad attempt by the fashion-forward seniors in the ELT to appear youthful, with a sidecar of whitewash to give some hope for the remaining employees.

Millennial will need to work at Cisco for about 250 years to afford a house in the Bay Area.

  • home ownership out of the question
  • student loan debt
  • most job openings are quietly transitioning to temp jobs without benefits

Millennial here and completely disagree. We see ELT tossing people aside because of their poor planning. I've know of severance folks in my age range who are looking to jump ship in the next 3-6 months, tops.
