To the last poster: Get a job WHERE? There are no jobs out there. I have the utmost respect for PIPers who are fighting for their jobs.
Let’s not kid ourselves and call this what it is—a layoff where they don’t have to pay. PIP is the legal way out of having to document “performance issues” in case of a lawsuit.
Leave the company and get a job elsewhere rather than playing their silly legal game with your lives.
@3gky+17pxBJ6e - I still don’t understand the benefit of signing the release if you are being terminated. Am I missing something?
Sue for what? Unless you can prove you were discriminated against (good reviews previous years with sudden NSI this year is NOT sufficient proof) then you do not have any grounds to sue. All you would be doing is giving your lawyer money.
There is many people who have reached out to lawyers to seek advice that have commented on the forum. Their comments from their lawyer have been there is nothing for can do.
Ha, indeed, if no new cash, why are signing the release??? XOM ain't paying you for it!!!
Keep the rights to sue, and sue them!
We only had one employee our of our ~10 PIPs in our division that stayed to try and work it, he only made it like 1.5 months and left.
Why would anyone that fails the PIP sign the release/waiver? The company isn’t offering anything at that point unless they are offering another 3 months of pay (highly unlikely). One of the main reasons to take on the PIP was to avoid signing that waiver not to sue. Am I missing something?
The PIPs were a joke. It was a lay-off concealed. You were screwed plain and simple. They don’t feel one bit bad about that. The three months of stress was not worth it.
Not seeing PIP colleagues smile and walk away as a successful person.
It’s doomed!
Will HR make you sign anything or hand in the termination letter ?
Expect pack up the bags and return laptop
I’m already seeing the PIP failures leave at my location. I expect none will survive. Layoffs coming as well followed shortly by end of period and rankings again. Like running the gauntlet.
People over thinking this, it's simple you are gone by end of month or end of 3 month period, whichever is first. If your boss by now has not said you will pass then very high odds you will not.
I haven’t seen any release form yet or any offer.
Would there be any offer or they can just say to “pack up the bags and return laptop” on 30th October?
@bpf+17pxBJ6e - did you have to release form when you did not pass the PIP? What did they offer in return for signing release?
Fired most likely
PIPd folks have meeting at the end of this month including manager and hr, basically it will be pip close out meeting.
What’s the outcome to expect in that meeting?
@rro+17pxBJ6e, pay-in-lieu.
PIL = Pennies in Lieu. This is what ExxonMobil provides to U.S. employees in lieu of a fair layoff severance payment that all other majors provide to their employees that are separated to reduce workforce levels.
i know what PIL means, but can anyone tell me what the acronym stands for?
thanks in advance
The pipping was a CYA carrot.
Interesting below - person says they got the same PiL paperwork when told they didn't make it.
That should be clarified.
Did that allow for the additional 3-month 'package' though near end of 3-month pipping?
In that case - actually 6 months of pay? Pip and PiL.
Of course, the pipping process took a year or two off the life - including that of the supervisor.
@sna+17pxBJ6e it's up to your supervisor, if they say no then no chance. If they say you may pass and they like you there is a chance manager can override that decision. Hr has no say for the most part. I have a close friend in hr that tells me that he recommends all pips to get out now while they can and start applying now this was back in July though.
Good luck
My supervisor had a meeting with me before Oct 1st indicating that at that point I would not pass the PIP. I decided to continue on until the end, working hard. Does anyone know if it’s up to the manager or HR?
EM needs to terminate (via PIP, retirement, voluntary, asset sales) many more employees. Not enough work now or in the near future to justify keeping 75000 people. I am targeting 60,000 employees by YE 2023, so a 5000 per year pace can be expected. Note that retirements typically are around 2000 per year and cutting the bottom 10% of MPT gets about 3000 per year. If people do not like the PIP process, just draw straws...totally random selection. Do whatever it takes to cut OPEX.
Gone.
I worked so hard.
In the end they handed me the same release they handed to me 3 months ago. This time is was just redlined. Old dates marked out.
I tried. I worked hard for them. It truly sad that the company let go of so many good employees.
You work hard, you get raises and then before you know it they want the money 💰 back.
Keep the people that don’t make as much.
Anything to cut back ....
I’m glad I’m out of the toxic environment!
Here’s to a better days!!!
I Thank God for closing that door 🚪!
Have the 3 people been informed or are they waiting to tell them on October 31st?
Nope, I'm with company still. What I hear is three ones on PIP will all be let go
@ynu+17pxBJ6e - did they terminate you? Sorry about the outcome.
Gone

PIP updates?
There are 3 weeks left in the PIP. I have not gotten a firm indication from my supervisor on my PIP.....whether I will pass or not.
Interested to know what others on PIP have heard from their supervisors.
