Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Technical career ladder positions

One “good” thing for this ROM is there won’t be demotions for technical career ladder positions, ie, will be lateral moves even if position is slated for lower PSG range.

Does anyone have insight or can surmise why Chevron changed the policy compared to previous ROMs like Accelerate Downstream when demotions were forced on people taking positions slated for lower PSG ranges? Seemed unfair then...maybe Chevron finally recognize what they did was wrong and not the “Chevron Way”???

What does this actually mean? A 21 given an offer for a ladder position slotted as 19-20 remains a 21?

@itv+17qViryC Thanks for the history lesson. Just one question: what kind of gun was put on their heads to stay with the company?

Think this was done to boomers beginning in 2010 with Accelerate Downstream. Wonder if there were lawsuits and reason for policy change...

Chevron pulled a fast one on us a couple years ago when they artificially inflated the PSGs to give millennials the illusion that they were getting promoted. Everyone was paid a visit by their sponsor to be told a) to millennials, 'congratulations! you got a promotion!' or b) to Boomers, 'don't worry, nothing's changed' (even though they just got a de facto PSG demotion, eliminating any chance at all of ever getting promoted again - effectively freezing their salary). The sinister thing was they introduced the concept of 'Technical Grade' (I think that's what it's called) that basically roughly parallels the PSGs, but really replaces it by introducing even wider salary and promotion bands associated with the PSGs. To answer the question? Now every job has a +/- 1PSG ring around it, so Chevron doesn't have to demote someone (i.e., lawsuit) if they move them to a lower PSG job. What it really means is that the person won't get a meaningful raise for maybe a decade or more - as was done to the Boomers since 2015.
