Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Last time you felt proud working at Ford, when?

I'll start, 2013. Company turned the corner. Alan was at the helm albeit sweeping the DPS6 disaster under the rug. Still had ambition and what appeared to be a career path. Stock was ok, but way better than it is today. Had a good manager and a great supervisor. Worked on a cool project that morphed into a POS later down the road. I yearn for those days anons, but I think they will never come back. Every year just gets worse with each new fad. I reflect back and realize it is possible to make Ford into an ok company to work for. But with the regime over the last three years, there has been irretrievable damage inflicted on the hearts and minds of the work force. Sure they will replace us, but you will just drop people into a non nurturing environment. People are not dumb and will figure it out sooner or later.

gois+17rRuX33 you can only change jobs if your supervisor allows.
The problem is Ford has more than its fair share of selfish controlling supervisors who refuse to allow the good employees to switch jobs. Many people get stuck like this and the only viable options are to quit Ford or stay stuck. HR backs the supervisor. The manager backs the supervisor.

Count yourself fortunate if you haven’t run into this situation as it is prevalent at Fords.

I laugh so hard at all the doom and gloom in here and the fan hurling for Alan Mullaly.

I must have a meaningful job because I never sit idle as one of the poster states so you dobrealize you can change jobs within the company or leave the company. Not sure why anyone would stay if they hate it so much but ok.

It is hard to be proud when you are not allowed to do a good job and are basically sitting idle.
It saddens me to see what the company has devolved to.
The company is the sum of all its parts.
I look around and nearly all the parts are broken.

My team has people sitting around doing nothing, but somehow all managing to get OT pay and comp time. Each person is assigned one software product to install and that is their full time job. It takes at most 3 weeks to install a software product. The remaining 49 weeks of the year the person does nothing. We have 12 people all sitting idle. The team should have at most 2 people, but we are hiring more people, the LL5 gave us more open contractor positions. What a waste of money.
It wasn’t always this way- 20 years ago we had reasonable staffing levels.

Having seeing the hey day of the Oval in the early to mid 1990s I would say that was the time I could walk around and feel really proud. Seemed then we could not miss with product people wanted on the truck side. On the car side we had the Mustang redone as sn95 and for a while things looked good for this company, then came FORD 2000 and things like Land Rover, Volvo, Junkyards,, and bad selection of CEOs that saw this once great company go into the toilet. People forget Explorer in the 90s made more money than the F-Series back then with half the volume. Fast forward after F2000 with the exception of Allan who had a plan and vision everyone could understand.
I wander what is our vision & plan? Jim Farley as one blogger stated has worked for Toyota and worked under both Alan & Jim Hackett.. So he has seen what a real leader is versus a plug in who I felt was lost and in over his head. Question will be which JF will we see? I can tell you morale is low and people are on pins and needles,, You listen to these Town Halls and each exec has their own town hall now and they paint all these Rosie pictures and say wow we are gaining market share in china.. ok .. So if if this is all happening then why so much talk about HC reduction? And if there are to be more cuts tell the troops so they can prepare for it. Last time in 09 we had a guy came back from an assignment purchased a house only to be let go four months later,, had he known earlier he said he would have rented. I do not know my fate... because i am not a person but a number to them...and like somebody told me we are all expendable assets to them. we are now equipment. I see meeting notices from VPS about idea generation .. So if you feel you are going to get let go why would i bust my rear-end only to get let go or a met for a PR item? I do my job.. but until i feel i can trust this place i will not go out of my way or go the extra mile until i feel i can trust this management team.

I will answer a different way— Farley has the capability to change the current malaise but has ONE chance— if he falls victim to the bull c-ap that’s been spewed out by those associated with his predecessor even slightly its over

OP. Agree with that you nailed it, this regime has done irreparable damage to the hearts and minds of the employees. What was done this last 3 years completely dismantles with the last 30 years built. They believe that is a good thing, but it is not a place I love to work at any longer. Before it was very challenging but also rewarding. Your department felt like a family, and people cared about each other. Culture is now a manufactured set of bullet points. That's all
