What’s the scoop on next week?

Between the complete lay-off of the childcare staff (almost 200), the 100 VPs and I don’t know how many senior directors, I imagine we’re closed to 500 already.

Far less certainty given we have not been given a number still. 500 is the minimum not the max

Yeah. It’s definitely taking longer than the implied timeline. No question there.

It’s still taking way less time than prior reorgs, and with far more certainty than how other companies announce layoffs, “XX thousand in the next 12 months.”

I think it’s fair to say it is dragging out as leadership has outright said that it’s taking longer than the original Oct 2nd date that was given.

ELT is still making the calls, don’t be fooled that lower S-bands are.

Is tomorrow the date for the next round to start? Not getting much sleep tonight...

People that think this is being “dragged out” clearly have never been at Nike during a reorg. While other things may have been executed in a day or a week they have ALL been rumored for 3-5 times longer than this current reorg.

This is taking exactly as long as I expected it to.

If you feel like it’s taking longer, maybe you need to stop and think about why that’s the case. This reorg appears to be getting far more input layer by layer than prior ones where the decisions were made by people 3-4-5 layers above.

Will it be perfect?

No. Of course not.

But I’ll take this version over any of the ones I’ve been through before.

@tpm, I am 100% in agreement and also add few E-Band Directors who are just as bad, if not worse, than the Sr. Directors.

Too bad technology is postponed. They need to clean house regarding their Sr. Directors or I'd like to call them the pathetic group of know nothings.

Technology would flow much better without them.

@yqm - agreed. Mr ‘transparency-is-the-only-way-I-know’ Donahoe is not sharing a damn thing.

The delay, I can only imagine, it is either due to our HR team not being able to handle the volume (understandable), or some legal requirement they are adhering to. Perhaps the fact they need the work to continue also. The lower bands scramble to keep the engine running.... $$$$$$$$

Does anyone know why this is being dragged out like this? If our fates have already been decided, why s bands, week long pause, e bands, week long pause?, Etc. Just f—ing do it Nike. I don't get it.

Ageism is a violation of a number of laws, are there no Lawyers in Oregon that Nike does not own.

Especially if it is across the Board of a layoff.

For the record, in many parts of the country, show just the opposite, why, only experienced workers know what to do in a storm.

Next week starts the E bands (week of October 19) and will continue through end of November. Hold on tight friends - the next few weeks will be impactful.

E bands from some depts will be the week of 10/26 with a slow painful trickle to get through “values” (so ironic), to complete that portion by mid-November. As has been mentioned some depts are staying as is through the Holidays.

What’s next is more lay offs. This is not new, every end of fiscal year (June/July) you can expect some form of RIF or another. Through the year, you can expect some targeted firings whereby folks just sort of disappear. If the recession and other conditions continue, mass layoffs will be the norm. After all Nike is all about USE and DISCARD. What’s sad is the survivor show type of mentality, the most connected and political survive, being a worker bee is not the most valued skill. Net working, promoting friends, creating orgs and re orgs, fear factor is what’s next.

Heard rumor E bands started next week, but senior LTs won't share any more info in public until it's done. We shall see.

At least in technology (which we'll be so reliant upon this year – more so than ever!), Nike would be foolish to lay people off right as we go into holiday. I expect things have been put on hold till at least January (there are rumors to this effect floating around now too).

Take the "holiday freeze" period as a time to study up on new technologies. You'll either get to use them at Nike (we've never met a technology we didn't like!) or it'll make you that much more attractive for your next gig. Cloud (AWS, Azure, GCP, Alicloud, etc.), docker/containers/kubernetes are obvious choices but if you don't know "what's next" in your area, you probably should be doing some personal introspection. Your career is 100% your responsibility.

See if your manager would be willing to pay for a cert if you pass (shows your looking to the future and not stuck on something old and the "if you pass" puts some of your own skin in the game).

All in all realize nothing is for certain. Enjoy what you've got while you've got it and don't stress too much over what tomorrow will bring. We'll all make it through this.
