Thread regarding IBM layoffs

GTS and GBS seem to do the same thing.

I moved from GTS to GBS recently, and I don't see any real difference between the 2 divisions. Both basically manage client's IT. GBS claims to be more about cloud, but supporting a client's AWS, AZURE, and other cloud services is the same thing as managing a client's virtual environment. It is still all outsourcing. The only difference maybe is when a client uses IBM "cloud", but that is also just basically outsourcing work to IBM.
So, really, I can see where most of GBS will probably also end up at NewCo.

Instead of continuing to manage a low dollars high margin consulting business they acquired in 2002, IBM quickly took all of the legacy clients and sold them into big dollars low margin India outsourcing. In the last 5 years the narrative for GBS has been around getting back into the consulting business (Digital Strategy and iX) that Armonk originally cannibalized for outsourcing, yet still holding the quarterly revenue requirements that can only be obtained by continuing these outsourcing contracts. Combine that with a workforce not motivated to sell and less motivated to deliver and yes, GBS looks a lot like GTS lately.

I as an GBS architect am currently working for 5 years for a GTS SO account, i recognize the duplicity but the core GBS is different. But no doubt in my mind that parts of GBS might well end up in NewCo.
