Thread regarding IBM layoffs

GTS - could be good

Internal messaging and communication is all about low margin and declining side of GTS spin off but on the cloud and AI side, it’s the same. GTS is still a big revenue engine with so many big contracts and customers. Anyone sees the positive side of the spin off? Maybe the new co will be better off with less politics, layers and stupid upper management.. guess depending on the new leadership team for new co. Any guesses?

GTS is a dump. The dregs of IT. Get out while you can.

Have you heard about Atlas? The cloud CRM that GTS uses that can not do reports?

Why would anyone waste their time accumulating IBM badges?

Oh the bluebirds can no longer say they are IBMers, that's awesome.
They're probably in therapy sessions dealing with the shock and awe.
How can this be? I have accumulated 10 IBM badges all for nothing.

The main benefit will be that you no longer have to say or hear the term “I’m an IBMer.”

Yes but all the people who go the spinoff will have to listen to "I'm a NewComer" ?

I have already starting putting feelers out there and would most-likely leave when/if something comes up. I'll say this though, I do think it is more of a stretch for IBM cloud to compete with Azure/AWS/Google that for NewCo to service existing clients that have a ton of legacy stuff and can;t simply "migrate" to an Open Cloud platform like Redhat/OpenShift, etc. I feel like a lot of the "demand" for those technologies is being created by IBM itself, not customers

GTS needs to drop most if not all of the old bloat IBM BS in order to be competitive.
IBM office space included. That all needs to stay with IBM side, its too much $ burning.

Chances are higher that GTS can sink given their high cost structure, rigid and old delivery methologoies and not so great execution capability. Just find out the win percentage for the projects for the last one year. It will be in the single digit to teens on the higher side.

That said, I liked my GTS colleagues very much (although they were probably perceived as rude and hard-headed) by other groups.

Stop having the wet dreams already. It will be debt-laden ( new ibm will have A+ credit rating, while newco will be "investment grade"). Combined with a toxic corporate culture, what are you expecting? Take a look at what have happened at the semiconductor division sold to GF .....
