With all the layoffs and constantly deteriorating work environment - and not to mention the disappearance of some benefits and laughable if any raises - who exactly will want to join this company once the work picks up and we are hiring again? Or let me rephrase that, who with any proper knowledge and experience will want to join Exxon?

I graduated from Louisiana State and I run circles around you mf’ers. Get over yourself.
ExxonMobil has hired the worst for a long time.
Best of the Best? — Those useless unemployable elsewhere Louisiana State, Kansas State, Unknown Indian University grads.. oh yeah what creme de la creme we have collected. I am myself totally unproductive and I am still here.
Best in a55 kis5ing is what you meant to say my friend.
@iyq+17w4twP3 what contractors?
We are only hiring from Texas, Louisiana and Oklahoma anyway.
It doesn't matter. We don't hire experienced people anyway. Just the latest college grads. They won't know any better.
@iyq I seriously doubt contractors are waiting to be converted. If 50% this board is accurate from employees, why would they want to subject themselves to the mistreatment of being an employee?
Hiring won’t be an issue but it’ll mostly only be from the Texas schools/people from Texas. Why would a top Eng/comp student from an out of state school come all the way to a hurricane filled, redneck gulf coast city in a shaky industry/company? They could go to CA, NY, WA, etc and enjoy good weather, real city life, diverse industries/backgrounds, etc then settle down in a T2 city later on.
Why hire in Houston when other locations are 1/5 cost?
You should see how many job applications we get a day in career connect. Get over yourself. We’re all replaceable.
im guessing if XOM actually had open positions in Houston, there would be hundreds if not thousands of applicants per role. Tons of recently unemployed O&G folks who would happily work at XOM.
The recruits from college will be lower for about a year and then they will be standing in line to come to work for 90K at ExxonMobil. In the meantime, there are always good contractors wanting to work.
I know many contractors are waiting to be converted. They will be happy to take over you whiners!
It is sickening the way they treated their employees through this this but everyone involved will have his day. Dogs always do.
But we'd have to pay sufficiently more to make up for the lack of job security and the toxic culture because smart people make career plans based on NPV of their career rather than just starting salary number. And our pay is already barely competitive before you account for those issues.
There will be no problems to hire. You just pay and you can get anyone you want, people from Shell, Chevron, out of college, etc. Let's be real here. People are commodity
Let's be real. XOM doesn't hire the best, we hire the best who are willing to work for O&G. If we hired the best from the top 50 universities, we'd see a lot more people from CalTech, MIT, Stanford & the Ivies here at the Spring campus.
Let’s get over the arrogance and BS of claiming XOM hires the best of the best. The best of the best go to FAANG and Wall St.
Oh, they’ll be able to hire, but retention is going to be a real problem when the industry booms again and it will.
XOM will start hiring again next year (slowly) and increase hiring over the next 3 years. The people we are hiring are freshman in college now. Do you freshman are paying any attention to this BS board (vs COVID). We only need to hire 2000 people per year. There are over 10 million new graduates globally every year. WE will have no problems hiring the best from every graduating class in the top 50 universities around the world. If there is a problem, then bump the starting offer by 5000, or relax your standards from top 10% to top 12%. The oil industry faced these questions after all of the past 6 massive layoffs. All of you hired on, knowing this industry has booms and busts.
Anyone? People are like fish, give it a year and people will forget all this ever happened.
