Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Will they announce EOI/retirements?

Will there be any respect paid to the employees who slogged through 30-40 years at this company as they hit the exit? Any announcement or recognition? Just seems we no longer give a cr@p about people who have contributed for so long. Can’t we at least put a scrolling list of names on the Inside webpage...sort of like the obits.

An announcement of a retirement or that a long tenured employee is leaving Chevron usually is the decision of your current/last boss.

Even though I worked for primarily great bosses/leaders over 40 years, my final boss (nicknamed "the Thought Leader") sent me an email saying that "you've spoken about retirement before....." never thinking to offer congratulations for contributions to Chevron's success. He also didn't write an announcement that could be sent out. The assistant to the VP asked me if I could write my own (which I did) and that was distributed. Hope your boss handles your situation better. :)

Don’t have high expectations in the oil business and you won’t be disappointed. A few have a great civil and Christian upbringing and they have faith in the good conscience of people - many others are disingenuous whose grandmas wouldn’t trust an inch as they would stab you in the back for nothing.

Yes, it is unfortunate that Chevron is a company and a corporation, just like every other company in this world, and being unlikable and things like being arrogant and offensive to others will also get you cut during a layoff as well as not having strong skills or a work ethic. Welcome to the real world. Hope you learn even more about life as you move along.

It is really unfortunate that employees who have worked for Chevron for 20-40 years are oftentimes let go because of favoritism. Excellent careers with strong skills and work ethics but because they chose to work as opposed to getting ahead by brown nosing are let go without any recognition of their longevity and careers. Chevron is a great company, however, a number of managers and team leads lean toward “liking” their employees instead of skills, adaptability, and work ethics.

In my group and the ones I have interacted with fro over 10 years most folks are fairly nice, We have leaving parties and our bosses earn loyalty and usually reward it. I do not believe these stories of "Nasty" Chevron.

Plenty of fond farewells within work groups. For those people that heard nothing, it’s because no one liked you. You’re happy to be gone, we are happy you’re gone, enjoy your severance and live well.

Took the early EOI (to retirement). No good-byes, no thank you, no warm affectionate notes from MW, JG, JJ. Wasn’t even allowed to confirm taking the EOI until HR approved it. I’ll get over it, though. Enhanced severance, COBRA until Medicare, full pension, 401(k). Don’t cry for me, Argentina!

I work in HR. I know of managers who are planning something to acknowledge those who were leaving after many years. I suspect there are others as Chevron is a family. It is really sad to leave during a pandemic. No goodbyes.

Retirement yes, EOI no. It does not matter much, everyone will forget by Jan 2021, this is how life is, you only need to make sure you are appreciated at home and within your family, the rest iof respect/appreciation will not impact your life much.

Company will probably be too cheap to even give a retirement gift and/or something instead of the normal retirement party/lunch in light of covid. Or as usual, those on the favored list will get something and others won’t get cr@p. Wonder what HR’s policy is and how it would be applied fairly (probably contains catch phrase “at management’s discretion...” to promote more inequities like this company is good at doing)

One year's salary...plus a 401k and lump sum pension...works for me. I also sent a 'great working with you' email to 30-40 plus folks I enjoyed working with. Most will send send nice comments back

The entitlement mentality of some us on this forum is as as bad as the average Kuwaiti citizen’s entitled mentality to receive endless and abundant oil royalty payments for life.

A rude reckoning is around the corner. A visit to a therapist would be prudent.
