Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Is RMAP worth it in general

How does it compare with what you can get directly from the Insurance companies?

Generally COBRA is cheaper for health and optical, more expensive for dental when compared with RMAP. You keep your deductibles paid for the year.

Like others said, keep either optical or dental with RMAP to keep you options alive, and (if ER) from 1st Nov have COBRA for the rest.

We recommend, you keep the vision & dental. Try to find health offered for half the cost elsewhere. Price gouging!!!!

If you are still working and have access to the benefits page on the intranet, there are plenty of details available to estimate costs.

If you took the CEP, they sent you all these details before your exit date. You also get an info pack for RMAP and COBRA.

To be honest, medical cost analysis is a very important factor in making the decision to take any package voluntarily. If you’ve already accepted without doing the analysis, you are not very smart.

If you have not accepted and you are coming to this site for info, you are either not a Cisco employee or are an extremely lazy person since Cisco internal web has all this info.

"OP here,
What are the Annual costs for RMAP for a couple?

Premiums + Deductibles for Health+Dental+Vision.

Trying to estimate annual health care costs, for a reasonable healthy couple who ends the year exactly hitting the deductible."

Call Cisco HR and ask. You have the right to do so after having worked there for years. Just have your old badge number. I would trust that info over a public board like this.

If you are like me and very close to 65 and Medicare, it makes sense.

Yes it is pricey, but for me it is a high quality option for medical insurance given my pre-existing / ongoing medical conditions.

110% agree that it's a GREAT IDEA to keep your RMAP option alive by paying for the vision plan. I'm in CT and RMAP is the best option I've found in terms of cost/coverage. I'm on the high-deductible plan (although I hate United HC). Good luck!

I should have typed "volatility" in the last post.

I believe the answer is going to vary by state. I am out of Cisco and haven't used RMAP, but keep the option alive by buying individual vision insurance. I look at it as a last resort for insurance coverage should I need it between now and Medicare.

Whatever you find, I would still keep RMAP option alive, as the private insurance market and exchanges have a high degree of variability these days.
