Project Apex is the Hail Mary.
Because servers and storage are a commodity, there is nothing that really makes one vendor stand out compared to the others. Buy servers and Storage from the big 3 and the only thing that changes is the name, the features and performance are so close no one really cares any more.
Maybe if Dell / EMC actually invented something on their own it might be different. I remember back in the dayEMC said there storage was so much better than another vendor and the next week they were marketing a the same vendor hardware rebranded as EMC and it was the next best thing since sliced bread
Project Apex looks good and resonates well. It's a few years late but no one can do the coverage from client to compute. Greenlake only does half the story.
Not sure how it will sell though in a sales environment where the only strategy is to bring deals from next year by dropping your pants, then target everyone on those pants down deals every year onwards.
