Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

Ex-Honeywell

I noticed a trend on LinkedIn where people include their former companies in their Profile Headline. Common to see Ex-Google, Ex-Facebook, etc., since it add to the person's credibility even though they no longer work there. Despite having 100s of contacts from my many years at Honeywell, I am still waiting to see anyone have Ex-Honeywell in their Headline. Let me know if you've seen one, so I don't assume those who have left are all embarrassed to have worked there :(.

I think the "ex-googler", "ex-apple" etc is showing that you got through a stringent and sometimes tricky interview process to join a high functioning company and you left that well tuned organization for another opportunity.

If you worked at Honeywell, you were s—ered in by a bait and switch by pathological liars or were very desperate for a job.

@sqg: you said it well...surprisingly enough they have a bad rep even with people not directly related to the business, and I mean it as a working opportunity...

I initially made that mistake too. Turns out... You are not an Ex-Company anything. Your career marketing identity (brand) is your knowledge, skills, abilities, personality, etc your identity is not “I used work work at so and so company”. As an example... If you were an mechanic at HON, state “mechanic” on LinkedIn and if someone cares, they can see you used to work at HON as a mechanic. This thinking empowers the job searcher not their former employer.

To some regard, saying ‘Ex-Honeywell whatever” just makes you look clueless on how to market yourself for a new job position. It’s akin to saying... I don’t have talent but my former title and company I came from proves I might have had talent or they have talent. It just comes off sounding bad.

Believe in yourself and empower yourself through how your phrase selling your skills.

I lost Honeywell as a past employer rather than have a 10 year employment gap. I am not proud to have worked for them. Contrary to what I believed when I was hired,Honeywell does not carry much clout when looking for a new job. The Honeywell reputation is so bad that if you are a long term employee you are seen as part of the problem.

I checked a sampling of the poor souls who were recently RIF'd. Most have new job's. Better jobs. 50% include Honeywell. Fact checked and VERIFIED.
