Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

Unwritten Rules at Sam's for New Hires

  1. You or a family member you take care of are never allowed to be sick. Taking time off is frowned upon. Upon your hire you have sworn your allegiance to your club and nobody else.
  2. No one in your family is allowed to pass away. Again, taking time off is frowned upon.
  3. Anytime management calls you on your off day to work because of a call-out, you must work it. Remember your blood oath to your club.
  4. Keep your facts of management to yourself no matter if they are true or not. Your club only hires the best from your state's Dunning Kruger University.

Violations of the above rules will ensure you are not one of the 'favored ones' and will ensure your termination at management's whim.

"You are a tool. You can't control being sick, or a family member that you may need to take care becoming sick or even a family member passing away. Sam's has no compassion or understanding when these events happen. Sam's only cares about Sam's. (Let's take a moment of silence to bow down to the almighty dollar.)"

  1. You can control being sick. The issue is all the losers that decide to conveniently be "sick" one or two shifts per week and expect that the company will just accept this malarkey. If you have a condition, then go to your Dr. and get it documented. It's called "intermittent leave of absence" due to medical conditions. Sedgwick allows for this. This is an ASSOCIATE RESPONSIBILITY, not the Management. The burden of proof is on the Associate to show documentation that they have an illness that entails multiple absences due to medical appointments and care.
  2. It's always funny how many members of the family just seem to die all the time, isn't it? I mean, a family member dying is usually rare, but it seems like the "problem Associates" I used to work with had a whole bunch of aunts, uncles and cousins and multiple pairs of grandparents constantly dying. Funny how everyone who has attendance issues at Sam's also has a family larger than Genghis Khan, huh? Totally random coincidence though, right?

@1dez And maybe Sam's (and Walmart) should do a better screening of new hires instead of hiring any warm body off the streets because they are so desperate to get the product to the shelves. Maybe offer hiring bonuses at the 30, 60 and 90 day marks with stipulations to get it? Instead, Sam's (and Walmart) are a last resort employer for a lot of people out there. The pay is some of the c-appiest. The hours are some of the worse. Managers are lazy and aren't 'leaders.' And you are treated worse than red-headed step-child.

Since you are new I suggest you seek employment somewhere else we have seen alot of new hires get terminated for attendance you cannot call in 3 to 4 times in your first 4 to 6 weeks that seems to be normal for new people right now.

Sam's schedules as if none of these events could ever possibly happen and when they do, they are short staffed. (They are short-staffed anyway.) And of course management places the blame on the associate and not their incompetent policies and half-@$$ed schedule making.
