Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

No more large scale layoffs

I have done quite a bit of impromptu polling over the past several weeks, asking 3rd levels of a lot of groups I interact with, if they foresee ongoing, indefinite layoffs. The answer seems to be that T has finally reached a target headcount, so the quarterly layoffs be finally be a thing of the past.

You may be right: no more massive layoffs.

Instead, I suspect it's becoming easier to reduce headcount bit by bit, setting overall targets and then a select few in senior leadership select employees for termination from across the business, all without triggering any reporting requirements or media attention.

I've always wondered why the company makes a Big Deal about force management on a single day, instead of stealthily culling down the workforce. Possibly because they were required to report it?

LOL!

Sure thing, Sparky. Everything will be sunshine and bunnies at T from here on out, and everyone will have a job for life.

You're as deluded as the people who think the election was rigged or that flouride in water is a communist plot.

To Oxy in Slovakia, your AT&T manager in the U.S., who is over your group, knows how they are deciding who to let go, so that is the person to ask.

But AT&T almost always makes lists of who to let go, rather than letting go of everyone within a band, but they also sometimes eliminate entire work groups.

Good luck.

3rd levels are pretty clueless, 5th level and above maybe, but they don’t broadcast anything concrete.

McFresh bragged about Q3 results, let’s see about Q4. The bean counters are hard at work to get the dividends out, that has more weight on lay-off than anything else. It’s a reactionary game without much winning mentality no matters how much they try to brainwash you.

Hello, AT&T in Slovakia announced 12% work force reduction (400 people), no details were provided, managers does not have any info too, I've been working here 10 years. does anybody know if they just select people randomly based on band level or they will ask the business unit to create the list? we are deeply worried what happen next. thanks

No more layoffs???? Somebody is out of touch with the reality. Wait for financial results of 4th qtr and watch how many companies will start laying people off next year.

We’ve had layoffs and leadership changes for the past 8 years that I’ve been here. If anything they are accelerating. With the current messed up structure, I predict another round by March.

Oh, and don’t believe the level 3s. They don’t know that much. It’s all dictated from the top down.

The current third lines have been stripped of all decision making responsibilities along with others including personnel changes.
Not really a good source for this type of info, imo.

I am going with that it is true. I have the worst luck in the world. We have seen layoffs every year except this year and this was the first year I would have taken an offer.

The pernicious threat of layoffs is exactly what drives morale to its all time low! It never ends, period! Been around too long to know better! It’s the ATT business model!

DON'T believe it for a minute! I've been with T for over 3 decades and the threat of being laid off was a constant and will always continue to be one! That's all they know how to do to get the wall street numbers up!

It true.,,just normal attrition plus the removal of Direct TV will also pare down employment. Massive Fiber expansion will add some stability to Network Ops. There will never be another offer of extra money other then what has been agreed to.

I’m a retired 4th line, 100% chance that directors are never in the planning process for layoffs. The will get notified and have ~24 hours to create their list ( if they are informed at all as they could be also on the surplus list...).

If you think a 3rd line has any idea of what target headcounts are, you are sadly mistaken.

You are wrong—one group within ACC Business has just received early retirement offers, with notice that if the desired headcount reduction is not reached (no target number provided), involuntary force reduction will follow next year.
