Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

When is the next reorg?

Legacy noble here, we are used to reorganization every 6-9 months. We got new chevron job titles but no job descriptions, more incompetence being promoted, and technical contributors stuffed into demotion type job titles. This is standard for Noble just curious if it is also a chevron thing?
Just wondering if we should even try in our new roles, once they let us know what those are, or just wait for the next reorg?

I am surprised how many Noble employees have jobs in the post-reorg Chevron.

It helped that many were placed in jobs in Houston (or retained positions overseas— Cyprus)

How were your organizations and business units impacted by hiring Noble employees post-acquisition ?

So many confident mo–ns on this site. How do you know Chevron didn't cut deep enough? Have you recalculated our dividend breakeven point post-FT to know that it's not low enough?

BCG is working on it now.

I agree that CVX didn’t cut deep enough. CVX staffed for the supposed ramp-up. MCBU should have reduced OC by half, but they believe next year is going to be rainbows and butterflies. Look to how tech companies staff completely differently to stay lean and competitive. AMZ doesn’t hire enough people to get all the work done. They work people to the bone and spit them out after 3 years. That wouldn’t work for CVX’s culture. MS is similar, but less cutthroat. Most workers will step up to the plate to grind out whatever needs to be done out of a sense of pride and purpose. Chevron doesn’t trust employees to stand in the gap when there’s work to be done, so they keep doing these wimpy layoffs and keep enough contingency. They need to reduce to the point where it hurts, where people are so overworked that they have to ask for help (and not just because they’re horribly inefficient). That’s when you know you’ve gone deep enough. Then they could hire a couple more folks to make it sustainable. Until CVX does this, we’re going to keep doing annual layoffs while managers will continue to hide people.

As I look around post reorg it is hard to avoid the conclusion that the company did not cut deep enough given the outlook for the next few years. This is sad because another reduction (my guess would be this coming spring or summer as it becomes clear the economy is not immediately bouncing back after the vaccine) will really k–l morale.

When is the next re-org? Answer: As soon as you feel comfortable in your current job.

Chevron’s management and HR are nothing more than a clown shop. Best examples of the right hand not know what the left hand is doing.

"Re-orgs happen !"— you can't be obsessed with future possible acquisitions or downsizings, "right sizings"..... Like someone already said— this is what happens in the oil industry.

Why not continually upgrade your skills? How can you lose? Either career works out at Chevron or you move on to another company that values your (improved) skills.

@1xnf+185Ucrc9 You sound like an ETC hater. Does ETC even drill for oil? no, didn't think so. You just run up expenses even more so than ITC does. I'd be mad too.

The next re-org occurs when the brain trust realizes having over 2200 people in the IT group in CTC is probably not a recipe for success. Probably impacting our dollar a barrel profitability by $1-$2 bucks a barrel and produces SFA

Who are some of the incompetence being promoted? Aren’t these folks top tier? Who’s the biggest hit and the biggest miss?

We may not know when but we know it will happen. I would suggest that if you don’t want to keep worrying about the next re-org, you should start looking to get out of this industry.

12-18 months. It might not be a reorg....probably a sale of your BU.

No need to worry for now, next reorg might not happen until 2022 or even later depending on how low the oil goes, for now you will get you paycheck and everything will be fairly stable.
