The same way Palo Alto Networks got its name.
;)
How did Cisco get it's name?
Ok. Look at the San Francisco Bridge on the Cisco Logo.
Cisco started as a husband and wife that wanted to communicate (at work). They made a "bridge" in order to communicate.
And then, eventually, started selling that idea.
Later the bridge turned into a "switch" and then came a "router".
Today, there are fewer "bridges" on the network, but the logo still has the San FranCISCO "bridge".
Later came JC & then CR.
Hope that helps!
cisco was used to be called San FranCisco , but then San got LRed and Fran joined a competitor.
The network works, no excuses

I left my heart in San Francisco ! Cisco was into routing, creating a bridge between building to route packets from one building to another. Hence it took the name from San Francisco and the symbol must the Golden Gate Bridge. This is for the newbies in Bay Area.
Some dipshit ripped the incorporation papers on the way to the lawyers. It was originally supposed to be San Francisco Systems. That’s why the c is lower case.
Was a friend of mine.
Is that you Chuck?
You must be kidding or a true imbecile.
